The Campaign for a FULL FRACK BAN in the Delaware River Watershed
Whether you live inside the Delaware River Basin or outside it, all organizations and individuals are invited to sign the letter to the Delaware River Basin Commission (DRBC) calling for a full frack ban that will refuse to fulfill the fracking industry’s need for places to get rid of their glut of toxic and radioactive wastewater and deny them Delaware River watershed water to frack new gas wells! The Governors of New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, and Delaware and President Biden’s federal representative will be voting on draft regulations in the near future and we need them to ban the import of fracking wastewater into the Delaware River Watershed and ban the export of water from the Delaware River Watershed for fracking in other watersheds.
The DRBC permanently banned fracking throughout the watershed last year, in response to YOU and a broad coalition of organizations, who worked towards this goal for a decade. This success must now be followed by a second step: to protect the Delaware River Watershed and the water supply for up to 17 million people, we must stop pollution caused by importing fracking wastewater and stop depletion of our water through exporting water for fracking in other watersheds. We won a fracking ban; we can win a full ban!
The climate crisis is being fueled by greenhouse gas emissions from fracking and other fossil fuel development. By prohibiting the import of fracking wastewater and export of water, DRBC won’t be enabling the industry to frack even more. Frackers want another place – our watershed! - to dump their polluted wastewater and get more water to feed the water-intense fracking process, all the while spewing methane into the atmosphere. More methane means more greenhouse gas emissions, which fuels climate catastrophe. Tell DRBC they must be part of the solution by not enabling the fracking industry. And they must finish the job with a full fracking ban that truly protects the watershed and the water supply for up to 17 million people from fracking pollution.
President Biden and the Governors can take action that will provide protection from fracking wastewater and water depletion and help achieve greenhouse gas emissions reduction with one simple vote! Please sign the letter to the Commissioners to vote for a COMPLETE fracking ban!
