If you want a massive, immersive soundstage with premium build quality for long studio sessions at your desk, choose Dekoni Audio x HIFIMAN Cobalt; if you need ultra-portable high-resolution audio with exceptional isolation for commuting or mobile mixing, choose NFACOUS NA20.
• Dekoni Audio x HIFIMAN Cobalt: Delivers an expansive, live-performance-like stereo imaging and superior comfort for hours of wear, but requires a dedicated amplifier to reach its full potential due to its wired nature and closed-back design.
• NFACOUS NA20: Offers incredible detail retrieval with a wide frequency range and ergonomic in-ear comfort that blocks out the world, yet demands careful fit adjustments and lacks the physical presence of over-ear headphones.
• The Cobalt is the definitive choice for the audiophile who treats their listening spot as a destination.
• The NA20 is the perfect companion for the mobile creator or commuter who needs best wireless earbuds for macbook performance (though these are wired, they serve the same portability role) without sacrificing fidelity.
The Dekoni Audio x HIFIMAN Cobalt is not just another pair of headphones; it is a serious piece of audio engineering designed for those who refuse to compromise on accuracy. This collaboration brings together the driver expertise of Hifiman and the customization culture of Dekoni to create a closed-back dynamic headphone that feels like a window into the recording. If you sit at your desk for hours, whether editing video, mixing tracks, or just deeply listening to music while working on your MacBook, this is the tool you need. The headband is specifically engineered by Hifiman to distribute pressure evenly, which means you can forget about clamping force after twenty minutes of use. You aren't fighting the hardware; you are just listening.
What truly sets the Cobalt apart is its acoustic architecture. The carbon-coated diaphragm is a marvel of physics, adding weight near the center of the transducer while keeping the outer edges light. This specific construction allows for incredibly fast transients in the high-frequency ranges, capturing details that other drivers simply smear together. But the magic doesn't stop at the driver. Inside the ear cup, there is a small foam piece placed behind the driver to reduce standing waves. In my experience with similar gear, standing waves often muddy up the midrange, making instruments sound like they are all in one bucket. Here, the result is an unmatched acoustic space that replicates a live performance, giving you a stereo image that feels wide and three-dimensional rather than flat and stuck inside your head.

This product is built for the tinkerer and the purist. The interior of the ear cup is easily accessible, allowing you to experiment with different materials to tailor the sound to your exact preference. Whether you prefer the breathability and open tuning of the included Fenestrated Sheepskin pads or the warmer, alternate response of the Elite Velour pads, the Cobalt adapts to you. However, you must understand that this is a wired, 16-ohm device with a sensitivity of 101 dB. While it plays well with many sources, it shines brightest when driven properly. If you are looking for something to throw in your pocket for a quick walk around the block, skip this. The Cobalt is for the listener who wants to sit down, plug in, and lose themselves in a sonic landscape where every instrument has its own distinct place.
In stark contrast to the large, room-filling nature of the Cobalt, the NFACOUS NA20 is a precision instrument designed for the go-getter. These in-ear monitors are built for people who need long battery life bluetooth headphones for macbook alternatives that offer high fidelity but prioritize mobility above all else. The NA20 features a sleek Maillard-style creation, utilizing high-strength transparent polycarbonate and CNC-carved aluminum parts that give it a boutique, durable feel. The shape is the result of years of engineering data, creating an ergonomic form that fits securely in the ear canal. This isn't just about comfort; it is about stability. When you are walking through a busy city or commuting on a train, these stay put, offering passive noise cancellation that lets you focus entirely on the mix or the melody without needing active electronics.
The heart of the NA20 lies in its patented SRA (Selective Reflection Adjustment) technology. By using five air pressure controlling damping nets and two tuning sponges, NFACOUS reduces reflected sound within the ear canal, resulting in a purer signal. This is coupled with the new MC2L-100M dynamic driver, which features a beryllium-plated diaphragm. Being lighter than traditional materials, this diaphragm responds faster, delivering a frequency response that stretches from 20 Hz to 40,000 Hz. That extended range means you will hear details in your favorite tracks that you have likely never noticed before, especially on complex arrangements or high-fidelity recordings. The integrated electronic tuning PCB further ensures that these IEMs adapt to various music styles, making them versatile enough for classical, rock, or heavy metal without sounding harsh.
Who should buy the NA20? It is ideal for the producer or engineer who needs to check mixes on the go, or the commuter who refuses to settle for compressed audio files. The package includes four pairs of MS42 ear tips in sizes XS through L, ensuring that anyone can find a seal that works for their anatomy. The inclusion of a 3.5mm to 6.35mm adapter also shows that NFACOUS understands that professionals might be plugging into larger interfaces or older equipment. However, these are in-ears, so they require a good seal to function correctly. If you struggle with ear fatigue or dislike anything feeling "in" your ear, the NA20 might not be for you. But for the user who values a compact form factor that delivers studio-grade sound, the NA20 is a powerhouse.
