If you want a fun, bass-forward sound with exceptional comfort for long TV sessions and casual listening, choose Dekoni Audio Blue; if you need expansive detail, studio-grade accuracy, and a premium build that handles complex musical passages with precision, choose Fosi Audio i5.
• Dekoni Audio Blue: The standout strength is its unique "fun" tuning with deep bass extension and the included dual-pad system (Hybrid and Elite Velour) that allows you to swap between sound signatures and comfort levels instantly. Its biggest trade-off is the lower frequency ceiling of 20,000 Hz, which means it lacks the ultra-high-frequency air and microscopic detail retrieval found in higher-end open-backs. This pick is best for someone who prioritizes a relaxed, engaging soundstage for movies and gaming over absolute analytical precision.
• Fosi Audio i5: The defining feature here is the massive 97mm diaphragm paired with a frequency response extending up to 50,000 Hz, delivering a holographic soundstage and incredible transient speed for critical listening. The primary trade-off is the more demanding power requirement (≥500 mW recommended) and a design focused on audiophile purity rather than the "bass-heavy" fun factor of the Blue. This pick is ideal for the user seeking crystal clear calls and detailed instrument separation for both high-fidelity music and immersive TV watching where dialogue clarity is paramount.
The Dekoni Audio Blue is built around a specific philosophy: taking the legendary T50RP MK3 planar magnetic driver and refining it into something approachable and highly comfortable for everyday use. At its core, this is a collaboration between Fostex and Dekoni Audio, resulting in a headphone that feels like a special edition of a classic. The most striking aspect for a buyer looking for a TV companion is the customization potential right out of the box. You aren't just getting one pair of ear pads; you receive two distinct sets: a Hybrid pad made with fenestrated sheepskin and an Elite Velour pair. This is a significant advantage for TV watching because it lets you dial in your experience based on the time of day or the type of content. The sheepskin side aims to recover some of the mid frequencies often lost in stock planar setups, while the velour offers that classic, breathable comfort for marathon movie marathons.
The sound signature is described as "fun," which in the world of audio translates to a warm, engaging presentation. It features great bass extension and a smooth high end, making action sequences in films feel punchy without being harsh. The semi-open enclosure design allows the sound to breathe, creating a natural atmosphere that works well for sports broadcasts or narrative-driven shows. Because it uses a copper foil etched polyimide film diaphragm, the driver has a reputation for being responsive, though the frequency range caps at 20,000 Hz. This is standard for many consumer headphones but means you won't hear the extreme upper harmonics that define the very top tier of audiophile gear. For a viewer who wants to feel the rumble of an explosion or the warmth of a jazz record without needing to analyze every breath taken by the singer, the Blue delivers exactly what is needed.

Comfort is another pillar of the Blue's appeal. The product information highlights rounded tips and an over-ear placement designed to eliminate pressure points. The inclusion of the fenestrated sheepskin on the inside of the pad is a specific design choice to improve airflow and reduce heat buildup during extended wear. If you are planning to watch a four-hour movie or play a long gaming session, this thermal management is crucial. However, there is a clear boundary for who should skip this model. If you are an audiophile who demands to hear the subtle decay of a cymbal at 40,000 Hz or requires a neutral, flat response for mixing audio, the Blue's "fun" tuning and limited frequency range will likely disappoint you. It is not a reference monitor; it is an entertainment tool designed to make you forget you are wearing headphones.
The Fosi Audio i5 enters the conversation as a serious contender for those who prioritize technical performance and build quality above all else. This is not a headphone designed to simply be "fun"; it is engineered for immersion and accuracy. The centerpiece of its design is the 97mm ultra-large diaphragm, which is significantly larger than the drivers found in most competitors. In practical terms for a TV watcher, this large surface area allows for better air displacement, resulting in a soundstage that feels wider and more three-dimensional. When characters move across the screen or when a car chase scene involves multiple layers of sound, the i5 separates these elements with remarkable clarity. The frequency response stretches from 10 Hz down to 50,000 Hz, capturing details that other headphones simply cannot reproduce. This makes it an excellent choice for anyone who wants to hear the full spectrum of a soundtrack, from the lowest rumble of a subwoofer to the highest shimmer of a violin.
The construction of the i5 speaks to a commitment to durability and aesthetics. The earcups are crafted from genuine walnut wood chambers paired with a CNC-milled aluminum frame. This combination of materials is not just about looks; it provides a rigid structure that minimizes unwanted resonance, ensuring that the sound remains pure and uncolored by the chassis itself. Inside, 44 N50 neodymium magnets work in concert with the silver-coated diaphragm to ensure fast transient response. This means that sudden sounds, like a door slamming or a gunshot in an action movie, will appear crisp and immediate rather than muddy or delayed. The open-back design further enhances this by allowing sound to escape naturally, creating a holographic effect that places the listener right in the center of the room. For users seeking the best crystal clear calls head phones for TV watching, the open-back nature ensures that dialogue is never masked by background noise, keeping voices forward and intelligible.
However, the i5 comes with specific requirements that dictate who should buy it. If you plan to plug these directly into a laptop headphone jack or a basic smartphone, you might find the volume low and the dynamic range compressed. You will likely need a dedicated headphone amplifier to unlock their full potential. Additionally, the ergonomic design features memory-steel headbands and silicone sliders for micro-adjustments, along with breathable skin-friendly earpads. While this suggests high comfort, the focus is on long-term stability and precision fit rather than the plush, squishy feel of the Blue's velour options. If you are looking for a simple, plug-and-play solution for casual TV viewing without investing in an amp, the i5 might feel like overkill. But if you are building a home theater setup or have a dedicated desktop rig and want the highest fidelity possible, the i5 is a compelling option that bridges the gap between professional studio monitoring and high-end consumer audio.
• Best for Customizable Comfort: The Dekoni Audio Blue wins hands down because it includes two different types of ear pads (Hybrid and Elite Velour), allowing you to change the feel and sound profile depending on your mood or the activity.
• Best for Frequency Range and Detail: The Fosi Audio i5 is superior here, offering a frequency response that reaches 50,000 Hz compared to the Blue's 20,000 Hz, providing access to ultrasonic details and a wider sonic palette.
• Best for Bass Impact and Fun Sound: If your priority is a warm, thumping bass response that makes movies feel energetic, the Dekoni Audio Blue is tuned specifically for this "fun" characteristic.
• Best for Dialogue Clarity and Separation: The Fosi Audio i5's large 97mm drivers and open-back design create a more expansive soundstage, making it easier to isolate voices and instruments in complex scenes.
• Best for Build Quality and Aesthetics: The i5 features a luxurious combination of walnut wood, CNC aluminum, and steel, offering a premium look and feel that exceeds the standard plastic and fabric construction of the Blue.
• Best for Simplicity and Portability: The Dekoni Audio Blue, with its standard 50-ohm impedance, is generally easier to drive from a variety of sources without requiring a powerful external amplifier.
• Best for Gaming and Immersion: Both are excellent, but the i5 offers a more precise, holographic stage for competitive gaming, while the Blue offers a more relaxed, enveloping experience for story-driven games.
• Best Value for Versatility: The Dekoni Audio Blue offers more immediate versatility due to the included dual pads, whereas the i5 requires an investment in amplification to perform correctly.
After weighing the specifications and the intended use cases, I would personally choose the Fosi Audio i5 for my primary TV watching setup. The reason is simple: for a medium-to-large screen experience, the expansion of the soundstage provided by the 97mm drivers and the 50,000 Hz frequency response creates a level of immersion that smaller drivers struggle to match. The ability to hear the nuance in a score or the exact positioning of footsteps in a game adds a layer of realism that transforms passive viewing into an active experience. While the Dekoni Blue is undeniably comfortable and fun, the i5's technical capabilities align better with the goal of achieving the best crystal clear calls and detailed audio reproduction for modern high-definition content. That said, if you find yourself needing to drive the headphones directly from a mobile device without an amp, or if you prefer a warmer, bass-heavy tone, the Dekoni Blue remains a fantastic alternative.
Both models are open-back, meaning they do not provide noise isolation. Sound will leak out, so they are best used in quiet environments where others won't be disturbed by the audio playing.
Using them without sufficient power may result in low volume and poor dynamics.
Neither headphone has a battery. Both the Dekoni Audio Blue and the Fosi Audio i5 are wired, connecting via a detachable cable, so they rely entirely on your audio source for power.
While the Fosi Audio i5 comes with high-quality skin-friendly earpads, the product description does not explicitly state that they are swappable like the Dekoni Blue's dual-pad system. The Dekoni Blue is specifically noted for including two interchangeable sets of pads.
