Welcome to Deep Work Book & Tracker ("the App", "we", "our", or "us"). We are committed to protecting your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and your rights regarding your data.
By downloading or using this App, you agree to the practices described in this Privacy Policy. If you do not agree, please discontinue use of the App.
2. Information We Collect
2.1 Information Collected Automatically
When you use the App, we automatically collect certain non-personal technical information:
App Instance ID: A randomly generated UUID stored locally on your device (not linked to any personal identity). It uniquely identifies this installation for app analytics and API communication.
App Version: The version of the App you are using. Used for compatibility and support.
Device Country: Your device's country or locale setting. Used for delivering region-appropriate content.
App Language: The language configured for the App (English by default). Used for content localization.
Ad Interaction Events: Type of ad shown (Banner, Interstitial, App Open), event type (loaded, shown, clicked, failed), and associated ad unit ID. Used for ad performance monitoring and sent to our backend server.
Note: The App Instance ID is a randomly generated identifier. It is not your Android ID, IMEI, phone number, or any hardware identifier. It is fully compliant with Google Play's User Data policy.
2.2 Information You Provide
Bookmarks: Page numbers and dates of bookmarked pages. Stored locally on your device only.
Imported Books: File path, title, page count, and reading progress of PDF books you import. Stored locally on your device only.
Reading Preferences: Dark mode preference, PDF reading mode (paginating or scroll), and last read page. Stored locally on your device only.
Reading Streak and Statistics: Current streak count, last reading date, daily pages average, and total reading days. Stored locally on your device only.
2.3 Information Collected via Third-Party SDKs
The App integrates third-party services that may collect data independently. Please refer to their respective privacy policies.
Google Firebase Analytics: Collects anonymized usage events and crash logs. Data is processed by Google LLC. Privacy policy available at https://firebase.google.com/support/privacy
Google Firebase Crashlytics: Collects crash reports including device state, stack traces, and app version at the time of a crash. No personally identifiable information is attached. Privacy policy available at https://firebase.google.com/support/privacy

3. How We Use Your Information
We use the information collected for the following purposes:
To provide core app functionality: Reading books, saving bookmarks, tracking reading progress and streaks.
To personalize your experience: Restoring your last reading position, applying your chosen theme (dark or light mode).
To improve app performance: Crash reports and analytics help us fix bugs and improve stability.
To deliver push notifications: We may send you notifications about new books or updates. You can disable this at any time.
To display advertisements: The App is free and supported by ads. Ad events are logged to our server to monitor ad performance.
To submit feedback: If you voluntarily submit a rating or feedback through the in-app review prompt, the rating and optional text are sent to our server.
To serve book content: The App communicates with our backend API to fetch book listings, categories, authors, and book details.
To track book interactions: When you view, like, or copy text from a book, an anonymous interaction event (book ID and action type) is sent to our server to update book statistics.
4. Data Storage and Security
4.1 Local Storage (On Your Device)
The following data is stored only on your device and is never transmitted to our servers:
- Bookmarks
- Imported book library and reading progress
- Reading preferences (dark mode, PDF mode)
- Reading streak and statistics
This data is stored in your device's private app storage and is not accessible to other apps.
4.2 Server Communication
The following data is transmitted to our backend server over secure HTTPS:
- App Instance ID (anonymous, non-personal)
- App version, device country, app language
- Ad event logs (ad type, event, ad unit ID)
- Book interaction stats (book ID, action type: view, like, or copy)
- Optional feedback submissions (rating and text)
- Search terms entered in the book search feature
4.3 Security Measures
We take reasonable measures to protect your information:
- All API communication uses HTTPS (TLS encryption)
- The App Instance ID is a random UUID with no link to personal identity
- Local data is stored in Android's private app storage sandbox
5. Data Sharing and Disclosure
We do not sell, rent, or trade your personal information to any third party.
We may share data only in the following limited circumstances:
Third-party SDKs: Firebase, OneSignal, and AdMob receive data as described in Section 2.3.
Legal compliance: We may disclose information if required by law, regulation, or valid legal process.
Business transfers: In the unlikely event of a merger or acquisition, data may be transferred to the successor entity.
6. Advertising and Your Choices
The App is free and displays ads via Google AdMob. AdMob may use your Advertising ID to show personalized ads based on your interests.
You can opt out of personalized advertising by going to your Android device Settings, then Google, then Ads, and selecting Opt out of Ads Personalization. You can also reset your Advertising ID from the same settings menu.
The App also includes a Premium feature that removes advertisements entirely.
7. Push Notifications
The App uses OneSignal to send push notifications about new books, features, or updates.
To disable push notifications, go to Android Settings, then Apps, then Deep Work Book & Tracker, then Notifications, and disable all notifications.
Disabling notifications does not affect any core app functionality.
8. Children's Privacy
The App is not directed to children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child under 13 has provided personal information, please contact us and we will promptly delete it.
9. External Storage Permissions
The App requests access to external storage (on Android 12 and below) solely to allow you to import PDF files from your device's storage into the App's reading library.
We do not access, scan, or upload any other files from your storage. This permission is used only at your explicit request when you choose to import a book.
10. Internet and Network Access
The App requires Internet access to:
- Fetch the book library, categories, and authors from our server
- Stream book content that has not been downloaded offline
- Log anonymous analytics and ad events
- Deliver push notifications
The App also uses Network State permission to detect connectivity and manage ad requests appropriately.
11. Data Retention
Local app data (bookmarks, preferences, streaks): Retained until you uninstall the App or clear app data.
Server-side analytics and ad logs: Retained for up to 12 months, then deleted or anonymized.
Feedback submissions: Retained as long as necessary to address your feedback.
Crash reports (Firebase Crashlytics): Up to 90 days, per Firebase policy.
12. Your Rights
Depending on your jurisdiction, you may have the following rights:
Access: Request a copy of the data we hold about you.
Deletion: Request deletion of your data. Note that local data can be cleared by uninstalling the App.
Opt-out: Opt out of personalized advertising or push notifications as described above.
Correction: Request correction of any inaccurate data.
