High School Digital Art
Throughout the school year, students are working on building their skills with figure drawing and drafting. This is our primary focus for the first month.
Afterwards, we move on to layering, where students use digital tools to paint and enhance their drawings step by step. Layering is also great for collage.
As we pass the half-way point, students work from written prompts and historical content to generate more elaborate paintings and to learn storytelling through comics
The last few months are spent on animation and filmmaking, with students learn to use all of their digital skills for video production routines. Students develop characters and stories to bring their drawings to life.
Portfolio, Promotion and Reflection
We develop Google Site portfolios (like this) and students organize their stongest work and reflect on their process.
Writing about your own work as well as using writing as a start point for writing is critical for planning. Even if the outcome is different than expectations, being able to identify that is important, especially as we begin new projects.
In May, for the past two years, we have celbrated our students with CamposCon, where students share their artwork at convention style tables and meet students an staff members. This event gives our art students a chance to network and share their skills
When students know that their skills are generative, then the ideation becomes a function of planning and students feel free to create and solve creative problems.
