The Sodium Bicarbonate Price Trend moved upward across most global markets during Q2 2026. From April through June, buyers and producers faced higher energy, transportation, and production costs, while geopolitical tensions affected regional supply chains. The movement was not the same everywhere, however. Some markets recorded strong increases, especially for technical-grade material, while others saw only moderate gains or small corrections toward the end of the quarter. Demand from food processing, pharmaceuticals, chemicals, and industrial users remained an important support for the market.

Sodium bicarbonate, commonly known as baking soda, is used across many everyday industries. It is found in food processing, pharmaceutical products, animal feed, chemicals, cleaning applications, and several industrial processes. Because of this wide range of uses, changes in production costs and transportation can quickly affect market prices.
During Q2 2026, the overall market moved higher. One of the main factors behind the increase was the growing impact of the USA-Israel vs Iran conflict on energy prices, logistics, and regional supply chains. Higher costs did not affect every market equally.
Technical-grade markets in Singapore and Thailand recorded particularly strong increases. Food-grade markets also moved higher in several countries, although the gains were generally more moderate. China and South Africa were exceptions toward the end of the quarter, as both markets experienced some downward correction in June.
The Sodium Bicarbonate Price Chart for Q2 2026 would therefore show a generally upward pattern, but with noticeable differences between individual countries and grades.
The main story during Q2 was rising costs.
Energy is an important part of chemical manufacturing. When energy prices rise, producers can face higher expenses for manufacturing, utilities, storage, and transportation. At the same time, increased freight and logistics costs can make imported material more expensive for buyers.
These factors were visible across several markets during the quarter.
In some countries, higher costs were passed directly into export or domestic prices. In import-dependent markets, buyers also had to deal with higher origin prices and freight costs at the same time.
Demand provided another layer of support. Food and pharmaceutical users continued to purchase sodium bicarbonate, while industrial users maintained demand for technical-grade material. This combination of steady demand and higher costs helped keep prices firm across much of the quarter.
China remained an important reference point for several Asian import markets during Q2 2026.
The food-grade export price from Shanghai increased by around 8% during Q2. Higher energy and production costs encouraged producers to adjust export pricing during the quarter. Demand from food processing and pharmaceutical buyers also helped keep the market supported.
However, the direction changed somewhat in June. Chinese sodium bicarbonate prices declined by around 2% during the month. Domestic supply was relatively ample, giving buyers more flexibility and putting some downward pressure on export prices.
This shows why monthly movements can sometimes differ from the broader quarterly trend. Even when prices rise over a three-month period, an increase in supply can create a correction at the end of the period.
Turkey recorded a stronger increase during Q2. Food-grade export prices from Mersin rose by around 15% during the quarter.
Higher regional logistics and energy costs placed pressure on production economics. Feedstock availability also became tighter, adding another reason for prices to move higher.
Demand from food and pharmaceutical users remained steady, helping support the market.
June added another 4% increase, showing that the upward pressure had not disappeared by the end of the quarter. Higher production and logistics costs continued to influence export pricing.
Singapore was one of the markets with the strongest quarterly increases.
Technical-grade sodium bicarbonate prices rose by approximately 22% in Q2 2026. Regional supply chain disruption, higher logistics expenses, and firm demand for technical-grade material all contributed to the increase.
The market became particularly firm as available supply faced strong procurement demand.
In June, prices increased by another 7%. Continued demand for technical-grade sodium bicarbonate, together with supply chain pressure, kept prices moving upward.
The Singapore market highlights the difference between food-grade and technical-grade demand. Where industrial buyers require a specific grade, strong purchasing activity can create additional price pressure when supply is limited.
Thailand recorded the largest quarterly increase among the markets covered in the Q2 2026 data.
Technical-grade prices increased by around 26% during the quarter. Rising production costs, higher logistics expenses, and strong industrial demand combined to create substantial upward pressure.
The market reached very high levels during the quarter as these factors came together.
June added another 8% increase. Strong technical-grade demand and continued cost pressure meant that the upward movement remained firm through the end of Q2.
Thailand therefore stood out as one of the clearest examples of how grade-specific demand and higher production costs can combine to produce a sharp price increase.
The USA market experienced a more moderate increase.
Food-grade export prices from Houston rose by around 4% in Q2 2026. Higher energy costs and greater supply chain caution increased domestic operating expenses.
Unlike some Asian technical-grade markets, the US increase was relatively gradual.
Food, pharmaceutical, and chemical demand remained steady throughout the quarter. In June, prices increased by another 3%, reflecting continued pressure on domestic production costs and export pricing.
India recorded an approximately 11% increase in domestically traded food-grade prices during Q2.
Higher energy prices, transportation costs, and inland logistics expenses placed pressure on domestic manufacturing economics. Transportation was particularly important because higher movement costs can directly affect prices at the ex-Mumbai level.
Demand from food, pharmaceutical, and chemical industries remained firm.
In June, prices increased by around 1%. The smaller monthly increase suggests that although the market remained supported, the pace of movement had become more moderate by the end of the quarter.
European markets also recorded clear increases during Q2.
In Spain, technical-grade sodium bicarbonate prices increased by around 14%. Higher European energy and logistics costs affected procurement expenses, while industrial and food manufacturing demand helped maintain the upward trend.
June added another 5% increase.
Belgium recorded an even stronger quarterly movement, with technical-grade prices rising by around 16%. Higher energy costs added to already elevated production expenses, while tighter regional availability placed additional pressure on the market.
Belgian prices increased another 4% in June.
These movements show how European energy and logistics costs became important factors in the sodium bicarbonate market during Q2.
Several Asian import markets followed movements in Chinese export prices.
South Korean imported food-grade prices increased by around 7% in Q2. The rise mainly reflected stronger Chinese FOB pricing combined with higher origin-side production and logistics costs.
However, June brought a small correction of around 1% as Chinese prices softened.
Indonesia recorded a larger quarterly increase of approximately 10%. In addition to higher Chinese FOB prices, freight costs contributed to the increase. Prices rose another 2% in June as transportation costs continued to support import values.
Australia recorded an approximately 9% quarterly increase. As an import-dependent market, Australia was affected by both higher Chinese origin prices and rising freight costs. June added a further 1% increase.
South Africa experienced one of the smaller quarterly increases, with imported food-grade prices rising by around 3%.
Higher Chinese FOB prices provided some upward pressure, but logistics and trade-flow conditions limited the overall impact. In June, prices declined by around 4%, showing a clear correction from the broader quarterly direction.
Canada and Mexico both recorded approximately 4% increases during Q2.
In Canada, imported prices followed the upward movement in US FOB pricing. Food and pharmaceutical demand remained steady, while relatively stable freight conditions allowed the cost increase to pass through in a fairly predictable way. June brought another 2% increase.
Mexico followed a similar pattern. Food processing and chemical demand remained consistent, while higher US origin pricing supported the market. Prices increased another 2% in June.
The Q2 movements show a wide difference between markets:
Thailand: approximately +26%
Singapore: approximately +22%
Belgium: approximately +16%
Turkey: approximately +15%
Spain: approximately +14%
India: approximately +11%
Indonesia: approximately +10%
Australia: approximately +9%
China: approximately +8%
South Korea: approximately +7%
USA: approximately +4%
Canada: approximately +4%
Mexico: approximately +4%
South Africa: approximately +3%
The figures make one point clear: there was no single global price movement. Local supply, product grade, freight exposure, demand, and production costs all influenced the final market direction.
A Sodium Bicarbonate Price Chart covering Q2 2026 would show a mostly upward trend across the monitored markets.
The steepest movements would appear in Thailand and Singapore, where technical-grade demand was particularly strong. Belgium, Turkey, and Spain would also show noticeable increases.
Markets connected to Chinese exports, such as South Korea, Indonesia, Australia, and South Africa, would show how changes at the origin can influence import prices. However, the effect was not identical in every country because freight and local market conditions changed the final price paid by buyers.
China itself showed an important late-quarter correction. South Africa also moved lower in June. These examples demonstrate that price trends can change even when the wider quarterly market remains firm.
The Sodium Bicarbonate Price Index remained generally supported during Q2 2026.
The index direction reflected several common market factors: higher energy costs, increased logistics expenses, supply chain uncertainty, and stable demand from important end-use industries.
However, the index should not be interpreted as meaning that every market moved by the same amount. The quarterly data shows significant regional variation.
Technical-grade markets experienced stronger increases in some locations, while food-grade markets generally saw more moderate movements. Import markets were also influenced by the pricing decisions of their major suppliers and changes in freight costs.
Looking beyond Q2, the market direction will depend on how several factors develop.
Energy prices will remain important because they influence manufacturing and transportation expenses. Freight costs will also matter, particularly for countries that depend heavily on imports.
Another important factor will be supply availability. If production and domestic supply increase in major exporting markets, buyers could gain more negotiating power and prices could face downward pressure. This was already visible in China during June.
On the other hand, continued geopolitical uncertainty, higher logistics expenses, or strong demand could keep prices supported.
Demand from food processing, pharmaceuticals, chemicals, and industrial applications will also remain important. A stable end-user market can provide a base for prices, while weaker procurement can quickly reduce upward pressure.
Therefore, the most reasonable view from the Q2 data is that the next price movement will depend on the balance between production costs, supply availability, freight conditions, and end-user demand.
For businesses purchasing sodium bicarbonate, simply watching the headline price may not be enough.
Buyers should pay attention to:
Energy and manufacturing costs
Freight and transportation rates
Chinese export pricing
US export pricing
Technical-grade versus food-grade demand
Regional supply availability
Food and pharmaceutical procurement
Industrial purchasing activity
Changes in geopolitical conditions
These factors can provide useful clues about where prices may move next.
