The SLS Price Trend in India changed sharply during Q2 2026, with prices moving higher through most of April and May before easing in June. The main reasons behind this movement were higher lauryl alcohol and sulfur-based feedstock costs, tighter supply, logistics problems, and wider geopolitical uncertainty. At the same time, demand from personal care, home care, and detergent manufacturers remained strong, encouraging many buyers to purchase material earlier than usual.
Sodium Lauryl Sulphate, commonly known as SLS, is widely used in products such as detergents, personal care products, shampoos, cleansers, and other formulations. Because of its broad industrial use, changes in its raw material costs and supply conditions can quickly affect the market price.
During Q2 2026, the Indian SLS market experienced a strong upward movement. On an FOB Nhava Sheva basis, for Grade-IG with a minimum purity of 95%, the SLS Prices in India increased by 45% compared with the average price of the previous quarter.
This was a significant quarterly increase. The market did not rise because of one single factor. Instead, several cost and supply pressures came together at the same time.

Higher prices for lauryl alcohol, particularly C12-C14 fatty alcohol, increased production costs. Sulfur-based feedstock also became more expensive. At the same time, geopolitical tensions created difficulties in raw material movement and transportation.
For buyers, this created an uncomfortable situation. The possibility of tighter supply encouraged many manufacturers and traders to secure their requirements earlier than normal. This additional buying activity added further support to the upward movement in the market.
One of the easiest ways to understand the Q2 movement is to look at the cost and supply chain behind SLS.
Lauryl alcohol is an important raw material in the SLS production chain. When the cost of C12-C14 fatty alcohol rises, producers face higher input costs.
During Q2 2026, lauryl alcohol prices moved higher. This added direct pressure to SLS production costs and became one of the important reasons behind the increase in Indian SLS prices.
Another factor was the rise in sulfur-based feedstock costs. When important feedstock becomes more expensive, producers generally need to adjust their selling prices to protect margins.
This contributed to the broader increase in the SLS Price Trend in India during the quarter.
The market was also affected by geopolitical tensions. These tensions made the movement of raw materials more complicated and, in some cases, more expensive.
For a commodity such as SLS, the final price is not determined only by the manufacturing cost. Freight, availability, delivery schedules, and raw material movement can all influence what buyers ultimately pay.
During Q2, these factors worked together and created a tighter market.
Demand also played an important role. Manufacturers in the personal care, home care, and detergent industries continued to require SLS for their regular production.
When buyers became concerned that material could become more difficult to obtain, they started purchasing ahead of their normal schedules. This type of early procurement can create additional short-term demand and support higher prices.
The SLS Price Chart for Q2 2026 can broadly be understood in two phases.
April and May were dominated by upward price pressure. Raw material costs were rising, supply availability was becoming tighter, and buyers were increasingly concerned about future availability.
By June, however, the market began to change direction.
Geopolitical pressure eased compared with the earlier part of the quarter. Lauryl alcohol and sulfur-based feedstock availability improved, while freight conditions also became more manageable.
As a result, SLS prices started correcting from their May levels.
For India, SLS Prices in June 2026 declined by 7% from the May average. This does not mean the entire Q2 increase disappeared. Instead, it shows that the market moved from a period of strong price growth toward a more balanced situation.
In simple terms, April and May were months of strong buying and rising costs, while June brought some relief.
The movement in India was part of a wider international trend during Q2 2026.
India recorded a 45% increase over the previous quarter's average, making it one of the strongest increases among the markets covered.
Other markets also experienced substantial gains:
Bangladesh recorded a 38% increase on a CIF basis.
Egypt recorded a 40% increase.
Sri Lanka recorded a 39% increase.
Saudi Arabia recorded a 42% increase.
The UAE recorded a 44% increase.
The USA recorded a 40% increase.
Most of these markets also experienced a correction in June as raw material availability improved and geopolitical pressure eased.
This broad movement is important because it shows that the Q2 increase was not simply an India-specific event. SLS markets in several regions were responding to similar feedstock, logistics, and supply concerns.
The SLS Price Index remained elevated during Q2 2026 despite the correction seen in June.
An index is useful because it provides a broader picture of how prices are moving rather than focusing only on one individual transaction.
The Q2 index reflected strong demand from personal care, home care, and detergent industries. Even though freight costs began settling toward the end of the quarter, the overall price level remained higher because the market had already experienced significant increases during April and May.
The June correction therefore looks more like a cooling of the market rather than a complete reversal of the quarterly trend.
One interesting part of the Q2 market was the way buyers responded to uncertainty.
Normally, buyers may purchase according to their regular production schedule. However, when there is a possibility of shortages or further price increases, purchasing behaviour can change.
During Q2 2026, many buyers chose to secure additional volumes earlier than usual.
This behaviour is understandable from a business perspective. If a manufacturer expects prices to increase next month, buying some additional material today can provide greater cost visibility. Similarly, if supply appears uncertain, having enough stock can help prevent production interruptions.
However, when many buyers make the same decision at the same time, market demand can increase quickly. This can add further pressure to prices.
That was an important part of the SLS market during Q2.
The SLS Price Forecast should be viewed carefully because the market depends on several factors rather than one simple price driver.
The June decline provides a more balanced starting point for the next period. Better availability of lauryl alcohol and sulfur-based feedstock, along with calmer geopolitical conditions, could reduce some of the pressure that pushed prices higher earlier in Q2.
Freight costs are another factor to watch. If transportation conditions remain stable, buyers may face less additional cost when sourcing SLS.
However, strong demand from personal care, home care, and detergent manufacturers can continue to provide support to the market.
Therefore, the immediate outlook appears more balanced than the sharp upward market seen in April and May. A continued improvement in feedstock supply could encourage further price stabilisation, while any new supply disruption or renewed geopolitical pressure could quickly bring upward pressure back into the market.
For anyone tracking SLS prices in India, several indicators are particularly important.
First, keep an eye on lauryl alcohol prices. Changes in C12-C14 fatty alcohol costs can have a direct effect on SLS production economics.
Second, watch sulfur-based feedstock availability and pricing. A tighter feedstock market can increase production costs.
Third, monitor freight and logistics conditions. Even when production costs are stable, transportation disruptions can influence delivered and export prices.
Fourth, watch buyer procurement activity. If manufacturers begin purchasing large quantities earlier than normal, it can be a sign that they are concerned about future supply or prices.
Finally, the direction of geopolitical conditions remains important. Q2 2026 showed how quickly market sentiment can change when supply routes and raw material movement are affected.
Looking at Q2 2026 as a whole, the Indian SLS market experienced a clear price increase followed by a moderate correction.
The quarterly increase of 45% compared with the previous quarter's average was mainly connected to higher feedstock costs, supply constraints, logistics difficulties, and strong buying interest.
The biggest pressure was visible during April and May. Buyers were concerned about possible shortages and higher future costs, so many moved quickly to secure material.
June brought a different picture. SLS Prices in India declined by 7% from May's average as raw material availability improved, geopolitical pressure eased, and freight costs became more stable.
This change shows why looking only at one month's price can sometimes give an incomplete picture. The broader quarterly trend remained significantly higher even after the June correction.
