Aspire Afternoon

Year 7 Aspire Afternoon

On Thursday the 20th September we opened our doors and welcomed our new families into school. Dressed professionally in our new uniform student Senior Leaders from Year 11 met with families and escorted them around the building, showing off the fabulous learning and teaching taking place. This event was hosted for the first time in 2013 and was a resounding success. This year’s event was bigger and better as a record number of families took the opportunity to experience Longdendale ‘at work’. The open afternoon was followed with an opportunity for parents and carers to meet with their child’s Form Tutor and discuss the fabulous start their child had made to secondary school.

After the tours families were able to meet with Form Tutors to discuss the settling in of their child and attend a workshop around supporting young people with staying safe on-line.

The Year 7 families who attended the event responded very positively in their evaluations:

97% agreed their child had settled well.

97% confirmed their child was happy coming to school.

99% of parents surveyed said their child enjoyed their three day induction visit in July.

97% felt the induction prepared their child well for secondary school.

94% found the information received from school regarding the transition to Longdendale useful.

97% of parents felt the parent meeting in July helped to prepare them for their child’s transition.

99% of parents would recommend Longdendale to another family.
