Quailifications / Background

I was born and raised in Madison County. I attended school in Madison County and was a member of the first class that went to Madison High School. I attended Mars Hill University (College) where I earned my degree in Early Childhood Education. I also attended Western Carolina University where I earned my Masters degree in Early Childhood Education. I began my teaching career on the island at Marshall Elementary where I taught 3rd grade. I then moved to Marshall Primary School where I began teaching Kindergarten. When Brush Creek Elementary was built , I moved to Brush Creek Elementary School where I taught Kindergarten until my retirement in 2011.

I have over 30 years of classroom teaching experience. I have an understanding of what is needed in the classroom. This will be a positive working point for being on the Board of Education. I have a love for the students, parents and staff of Madison County Schools. I want to be an advocate for all members of the school family. I believe students deserve the best education to help them be ready to go out in the world to college, technical schools, armed forces or the work force.

I have two grown daughters, son in law and 3 grandsons (wonderful). Both of my daughters went to Madison County Schools and graduated from Madison High School. Two of my grandsons are current students in Madison County Schools. The youngest grandson will go to school in 2 years and will attend Madison County Schools.

I will work hard to continue the important projects the current board and superintendent have started to make our schools excellent. I will also work diligently to keep the free breakfast and lunch program for our students. I would like to work to include our staff in free breakfast and lunch. We can't offer a huge supplement but this would let our staff know that we see you and appreciate all you do for our students. We have excellent schools and my goal is to keep excellent schools for our students. I would greatly appreciate your vote this November.
