LOCHMOOR INSTITUTE.

the lochmoor institute for magic current exists as a magically hidden island within other greek islands. it was first established in 615 A.D. before being lost in 1389, then rediscovered in 1708 in its current, new location. its current head, rowan murphy works to keep it as a place of learning and healing. of protection and sharing of knowledge. it has some associations with the likes of rieker academy and also offers a safe space to those within the downworld looking for it. 

• founded in 615 A.D. on a remote island called lochmoor in scotland, five exceptionally talented magic users founded a safe harbour, a school, a home. a place for those with shared talents to come. to find sanctuary and to learn with one another. to live as a stronger community. 

• for hundreds of years, lochmoor gained power, creating a strong legacy for itself. its founders dabbled in deeper magics that connected their souls to one another and to the island and enabled them to be reincarnated after death so they might come back and return to life to ensure the safety and longevity of the school. 

• however, in the summer of 1389 all is lost when, after an attack staged by those wishing to annihilate magic users and the population of lochmoor, one of the founders and his entire family is brutally killed. a cascade of catastrophic events follow and, eventually, all of the founders are lost. along with them, the island too. lochmoor is lost, falling into history and stories. 

• until 1708 when finally, one of the founders is reincarnated again and returns, finally finding lochmoor once more. since then, rowan murphy, the reincarnation of one of the original founders of the island (cian Ó muircheartaigh), has worked as head of the institute to refortify what had been established there. along the way, he manages to discover another two of the original founders and together, they continue the work they set out to do all those centuries ago. as of june 2024, another of the long lost reincarnations of one of the founders was also discovered, now meaning that of the five, four have reconnected. 

due to the fact that they have a deeper loyalty to magic, lochmoor often falls into neutrality when it comes to the wars of the likes of heaven and hell. however, in more recent years, they have offered sancturary to those fleeing from either side. essentially, all are welcome at lochmoor, so long as you are causing no harm and leave your animosities at the door. however... they really don't like heaven and what it has been up to/continues to do. they'd rather see heaven brought to its knees and will happily support anyone aiming to make that happen.
