Dead Stars, is a short story written by Paz Marquez Benitez in 1925. This is a story of a love triangle where the man cheated on his girlfriend.

Alfredo Salazar is a lawyer in his thirties, he was also betrothed to Esperanza. Esperanza is a beautiful woman whom Alfredo Salazar loved the most in his youth. Alfredo and Esperanza were about to be wedded after the following month. Although Alfredo is afraid to commit, he fell in love with another woman in the six weeks preceding his and Esperanza’s monitor. Esperanza who was a legal woman has to find ways and be a fool just to make his man stay. Is it not frustrating and sad? Later on, Esperanza finally learned that Alfredo was cheating behind her back. Even so, Esperanza didn’t give up on Alfredo’s love even though she was cheated on and they were going to get married. Eight years later, Alfredo and Julia meet and it seems that Alfredo has no feelings for Julia.

The “Dead Stars” represent an unrecognized presence. It speaks of emotions and relationships that may exist but not be realized and lose their real meaning and significance. In the story, the attraction between Alfredo and Julia is forbidden and a phenomenon. They both felt it to be real but never accepted their mutual attraction nor confessed it.
