We live in a world where contentment is one of the rarest things you can find in someone. There is a tendency for someone to seek for more than what they already have. People are rarely contented and can easily be blinded by infatuation and lust towards someone they barely knew to the point where they’re willing to abandon years of commitment with someone they once loved.
The story “Dead Stars” by Paz Marquez Benitez, depicts a protagonist who had romantic feelings towards another woman despite being betrothed. Alfredo, the protagonist, is a great example of how people can never be contented. He is seeing things with his eyes shut. He was blinded with infatuation and lust. He thinks that his love for Julia, the other woman, is so strong and true when the truth is his feelings for her is superficial and is merely an infatuation. The story showed us how love can affect a person which in this case, it made Alfredo a cheater and a selfish person. He spent years clinging onto his love for someone from the past only to find out that he is holding on to something that no longer exist and is only in his imagination. Due to what he thought is love, he did things that he should not do.
We should not love someone with our eyes shut. Being in love is surely a great but we should not let it turn us into someone selfish and uncontented. In loving someone, it is important to know whether what we feel is real or is a mere fantasy. We should ask ourselves whether we are really in love or just in love with the idea of being in love.
