Superman: Last Son
We start with Clark at Ma Kent’s house talking about how he was hoping to live up to Pa Kent’s memory and legacy. Ma Kent also talks about how being an alien doesn’t change anything about him and he is still very human at heart.
At the Fortress of Solitude, Superman accidentally activates the codex crystal that shows him his father, Jor-El. Jor-El tells him about his Kryptonian lineage and wants to show Clark his history in the Fortress of Solitude, which is mainly a long-lost Kryptonian expedition ship trapped in the ice of Antarctica. While they are messing with some of the older technology from the ship, they accidentally trigger a distress beacon.
We find out that the distress beacon was a protocol that woke General Zod and his followers from his phantom zone status prison, and they set course for Earth to find the source of the distress beacon.
While at the Daily Planet, we see that Cat Grant and Clark are now dating and they go to get lunch. After lunch at Bibbo’s DIner, there are UFO sightings and it is seen that Zod has come to Earth and is asking to speak with Superman.
Superman goes to speak with General Zod and Faora, and Non it is revealed that General Zod tried to take over Krypton to save it from self-destruction and intends to do the same thing to Earth so that the humans don’t destroy Earth from their own arrogance and poor leadership.
Superman is obviously against a hostile takeover and begins to fight General Zod with his Kryptonian powers. Zod quickly learns how to use the Kryptonian powers from Earth’s yellow sun, and on top of his military training, Zod and his disciples are able to defeat Superman and leave him in bad shape on the ground.
General Zod goes to Lex Corp Tower to kill and take over Mayor Lex Luther’s spot as his first step toward Zod’s empire. Zod plans on making all kneel to him before eradicating large population centers in order to “start over.”
Lois runs up to Superman lying on the ground and inspires him to get back up because he has such a good heart and never gives up. It doesn’t matter if they are more powerful.
Zod and his people intimidate Lex and are about to end him when Lex smugly says “oh, help” and Superman got to him right away. Lex then signals for Mercy to bring him the new device. Superman and Zod continue to fight and Superman is about to be beaten again, but then all of a sudden Zod is struck from behind with a brand new kryptonite weapon that Lex had developed. Superman is weak, and they are all shocked, and then Lex concentrates the weapon on the three Kryptonian invaders for long enough to kill them. Superman is shocked by this and has a problem with Lex killing them. Lex tells Superman that he hates and does not trust aliens and will do whatever he needs to keep planet Earth safe, including destroying Superman if he needs to.
Superman goes back to Lois and Jimmy starts to roll live news where Superman explains everything that happened. He explains that he is from Krypton but does not share the same interests as General Zod and he was raised on Earth and looks forward to protecting it. His values are that of a humble American hero. Superman also gives Lex Luther credit for stopping General Zod’s forces. This implies that the people like Lex Luther even more now, as he continues to climb the political ladder.
At the end we see Lois and Superman talking and Superman talks about how Lois is the heart of what a good person is. Lois kisses him and it is inferred that Superman and Lois are starting to date. The problem is that Clark Kent is still dating Cat Grant. Quite the predicament.
Lastly, we see Jor-El and Superman back at the fortress of solitude and Jor-El warns Clark that the distress beacon was actually picked up by another source besides General Zod. We find out that this source was Kara Zor-El, who woke up from the phantom zone and crash-landed on a strange planet.
