Heroes United
Green Arrow and his brand new protege, Speedy, aka Roy Harper, are in Star City watching Brick and his goons load weapons on a ship. They have reason to believe that these are cutting edge illegal weapons that are being purchased by the League of Shadows. This recon mission was just to find out where the shipment was going but the rash and cocky Speedy decided that the easiest way to do that is simply get on the ship. The troublesome scamp sneaks aboard and Arrow has no choice but to follow after him. The ship ends up leaving the yard with the two on board.
While onboard, Speedy convinces Oliver to look around and see what they can find. Speedy opens up a crate and uncovers a ton of traditional weapons like semi automatic rifles and explosives but they also find a large container that looks way more secure and high-tech than the others. Arrow tries to open it but in his attempt, a defense system activates and releases a powerful shockwave of energy. This burst of every from the container immediately alerts Brick of the stow aways, as well as puts a hole in the ship. Speedy and Green Arrow fight the goons, while Brick commands that they dock somewhere immediately before their biggest pay day ever sinks to the bottom of the ocean.
The ship turns to shore and Brick joins the fight against Green Arrow and Speedy. Brick puts up a good fight and is winning against the archers since their arrows aren’t doing much against his high strength and durability. At one point, even breaking Speedy’s bow. Brick holds up Speedy by the neck and orders that he surrender or the child dies. Arrow stands, unable to face a situation like this again in good conscience.
Luckily, he doesn’t have to because at that moment, a huge funnel of water collides with Brick, separating his grip on Speedy. Now standing, on the side of the ship is Tempest and Aquaman, who felt the pulse of the container’s massive energy wave travel through the sea and came to investigate. Aquaman goes in for an attack on Brick and does much better given his super strength. Tempest says “you’re welcome” to Speedy but he pulls out a small crossbow saying he would’ve handled it.The four work to incapacitate Brick as the ship roughly docs. Green Arrow thanks Aquaman for the assist and is glad jinxes it by saying mission accomplished, trouble is over.
Suddenly, the hull of the ship tips upwards and is torn apart. The villain known as Doctor Polaris now floats above them, demanding to secure the shipment. The archers try to hold onto the ship while the atlanteans jump in the water. The boat is dropped on shore and Doctor Polaris gets closer to the big container but Green Arrow fires at him with a trap arrow to stop him. Polaris sees this and uses his magnetism to loop it around and wrap Green Arrow in his own trap. Polaris tries to lift the container with his powers but his magnetic abilities don’t seem to work on the box. Polaris seems puzzled and frustrated as Speedy mocks him to get his attention as Aquaman and Tempest flank him from behind. Speedy also cuts Arrow free. The team get in a few good hits on Doctor Polaris but then he starts using metal from the dock and ship to defend against their assault. Doctor Polaris piles rubble on top of our heroes, subbing and almost crushing them as he uses more debris to form a sort of claw to lift the container with.
He lifts it and turns to leave, when a missile hits the container, scattering the metal and causing it to come hurtling down to the ground. He looks up and we see the Batwing soaring through the sky. That’s when the heroes realize the ship emergency docked in Gotham. Batman circles the Batwing back around as Robin uses a grappling hook pulley to lift the rubble off the others. The container lands and breaks open with a dramatic energy wave. The energy burst disorients Doctor Polaris and Batman flies at Doctor Polaris once again as Speedy and Green Arrow fire shots from two different directions. As Polaris sways the Batwing away with his powers, the archer’s boxing glove and knock out gas arrows smack Polaris’s face. He falls to the ground and Tempest catches the unconscious villain in a pool of water.
Batman insults them by saying he knew about this deal going down weeks ago and they’ve ruined his investigation. They approach the busted container. Green Arrow says they did their job and stopped the League of Assassins from getting some big dangerous weapon. Batman counters and shows them the inside of the container, holding advanced high tech weapons that none of them have ever seen before. Batman explains that his goal was to identify the supplier and shut it down, not just stop the buyers or middle man deliverers like Brick. Aquaman takes a look at the technology and declares that it looks similar to the Motherbox they have in Atlantis. Batman questions where that came from but Aquaman says he has no clue since it has been with the nobility of Atlantis since before it was under water. Green Arrow says that a little communication would have been good next time but Batman disagrees, given how this fiasco went. The sidekicks step up and say it all went fine. Batman says he will take it from here, and tells the others to leave his city. Speedy sarcastically says “let’s do this again some time” before being elbowed by Green Arrow telling him to shut up.
Lastly, we see Batman interrogating Brick at the docks, trying to get him to reveal the origin of these dangerous weapons. Him and Robin go good cop bad cop until Batman dangles Brick over the water. Brick panics because he says he can’t swim and reveals that he doesn’t know where the stuff comes from but there is a weapons demo happening this week by Intergang. Only the most elite of the criminal underworld will be there. Batman demands a name for the person running it and Brick admits his name is Ugly.
