Green Arrow: Loose Ends
Canary repots she found and can confirm Tigress and that she lives with Sportsmaster and in Gotham. Oliver agrees to strike at their home they will ambush them. They are still working to dismantle the League of Assasins one branch at a time. Roy tries his best to convince Green Arrow to give him some of the more advanced trick arrows for this one but Oliver says they are too dangerous and has to become a master at the basics first.
The trio do surprise Tigress and Sportsmaster in their homes. They beat them up and are doing well but then Sportsmaster knocks Roy upside the head with a baseball bat to incapacitate him so Canary has to give him attention. Sportsmaster calls Tigress a stupid bitch for leading them here and breaks her spine so that Oliver will have to take her in, giving sportsmaster the opportunity to escape.
Black Canary discovers the two younger girls hiding in a closet. When they see their mom on the floor, Jade leaves and Artemis cries. Tigress is then taken to jail and Artemis to foster care while the other two are on the run.
Sportsmaster finds and confronts his daughter Jade about making her pick up her moms slack now or else. The other two are a lost cause. Time to get back at the “heroes”.
In the interrogation room, Oliver and Roy press Tigress for information while Diana talks to the younger Artemis. Tigress gives nothing to damn her abusive husband but Diana coaxes out some information from Artemis about where they would go / where contracts come from. Artemis would sometimes play on the swing set at a park that had a mailbox where papers target contracts would be taped under.
Sportsmaster and Jade go to pick up another contract from the League of Assassins at the mailbox spot but Sportsmaster realizes something feels funny or off and they are probably made. They hand back and notice the three are waiting for them
Jade intercepts and gets Roy alone while the heroes are steaking out the contract place, trying to get him to see the better side of being an assassin instead of a dumb hero. We also get Roy to talk about his upbringing here. Roy mentions that his family was a lot like Jade’s and that he understands her point but working with the right team can make things better. She doesn’t buy it and says he better start looking out for himself or he will regret it one day. Jade tells him to just think about it before vanishing.
Diana and Oliver are talking about the Crock family and are ambushed by a violent Sportsmaster. They fight and manage to hold Sportsmaster off until Jade joins in and tranquilizes Canary. Speedy catches up with the tussle and manages to turn the tide, distracting Sportsmaster and allowing Green Arrow to sink an arrow in his knee. Sportsmaster tells Jade they need to bail then they get out as Green Arrow and Speedy take care of Canary. Speedy asks if he can have some trick arrows now for saving his life.
Back at base, Canary comes to and is bummed their chance to nab them is ruined and they are probably long gone by now. Speedy slyly says that’s not how people like them operate. After all, they have a contract to complete if they want to get paid. Speedy then reveals that he managed to swipe their contract kill card before they were able to. He shows it to the two and reveals why they were in town. The target’s name on the card: Oliver Queen.
Oliver and Dina are in Queen Tower with Oliver saying it was cute when he got used as live bait the first time but now this feels extra personal. They know that the assassins will be coming soon so Oliver and Dina wait in civilian clothes while speedy keep us watch from the next building over. It seems clear that the League of Assassins knows Oliver is in fact Green Arrow. Oliver says one of the great things about being an orphan is that he doesn’t have any family they can target to try to get to him. Dina understands the guilt he feels about what happened with the young girls but assures him that he does have people that care about him, and kisses him. Speedy radios in and says that’s disgusting. Oliver tells him to keep watching at his post while he continues ordinary business as usual.
The days drags on and Oliver does boring business meetings while Speedy sits and watches. He grows tired and eventually loses focus. Seedy is convinced they must have been spotted or they suspected their plan so he just starts messing around with his new trick arrows. What Speedy doesn’t see is Sportsmaster scaling the side of Queen Tower, slowly making his way to the board room. Oliver’s meeting with his clients is overshadowed by shattering glass from Sportsmaster’s entrance. The board flee and Canary cries towards Sportmaster. He is clipped in so he doesn’t go flying off.
Roy hears the cry and goes “oh, crap.” before shooting a zip line arrow perfectly above Sportsmaster. The board reaches the elevator but as the doors open, Cheshire dances her way out towards Oliver. Sportsmaster is still holding onto the rope as Canary blast him and Speedy comes zooming down the line ready to kick his butt. Cheshire reaches Canary from behind and wraps a scarf around her mouth. Canary gracefully switches to hand to hand combat with Cheshire as Sportsmaster pulls out a knife and cuts Speedy’s line, causing him to fall aimlessly to the street below. Speedy thinks quickly and uses his new expanding foam arrow to cushion his fall. Canary manages to beat Cheshire in one on one combat as Sportsmaster makes his way to Oliver. Dina then takes on Sportsmaster but he is a much more formidable opponent. Oliver feels like his hands are tied by his board members being there. He can’t fight and risk his secret identity being found out! Speedy as lookout and Dina as private security were supposed to handle it.
The elevator doors finally open back up again and the board members floor in. The elevator is clearly over capacity but they don’t care, they want out! Oliver says he can’t fit and will just take the stairs, pressing down on the elevator. When the doors close, a shot put barely misses Oliver’s head, denting the metal. Without eyes on him now, Oliver parkours over to behind his desk where he keeps a spare bow underneath. Oliver unfolds it and takes aim at the assassin but when he focuses up, he notices Sportsmaster still fighting too close hand to hand with Black Canary for Oliver to take a clean shot and also inching towards the elevator door. Sportsmaster gives Canary a hard throw towards Oliver and pries open the doors. Sportsmaster then gives the ultimatum to catch the elevator full of people or go after him. He cuts the elevator cables, causing the board members to fall to their doom while Sportsmaster grabs hold of the other cable and slides down.
Without hesitation, Oliver shoots a corded harpoon arrow down to catch the elevator full of people and plants his bow Polly down hard into the floor. Although his bow will provide a significant mechanical advantage, Canary and himself will have to pull very hard to slow them down. The plummeting chasey comes screeching to a halt as Dina and Oliver stopped it. Exhausted, they look at eachother proud but disappointed that Sportsmaster got away.
Cut to the ground floor of Queen Towers where Sportsmaster is still booking it to an exit. He finds one and makes it to free city air in an ally. Before Sportsmaster has the chance to revel in his daring escape, he is struck in the head by a red boxing glove arrow. His signature hockey mask hits the pavement as Speedy smirks all cocky-like in the foreground. Speedy then hears laughter and Cheshire playfully saying, “nice shot, quick draw.” However, Cheshire is not seen and fades into the city, for now. Oliver and company then turn Sportsmaster into the appropriate authorities. Both Tigress and Sportmaster are behind bars at Belle Reve. Cheshire is out and about somewhere free, and Artemis is sent to a group home until she turns 18.
Just to mess with the League of Assassins, Oliver goes to tape Sportsmaster’s hockey mask back underneath the contract mailbox. Written on the mask is: “I’m not killing your guys so stop trying to kill me!” followed by a smiley face. As Oliver is underneath the bin, a dark shadow covers him. Batman tells Oliver that he knows all about the League of Assassins and what he is doing will not work. Batman says that if he really wants to dismantle the League for good he can work with like minded individuals to do some good in a League of their own. Oliver says he has seen Batman’s new crew of heroes on the news and humbley declines. Green Arrow sees himself as a street level do gooder just looking out for the littler guys, and not someone who has an arrow cool to defeat alien warlord. Batman accepts his rejection but informs Oliver as long as he stays in the straight and narrow, he still has an open invitation if he ever changes his mind.
In the post credit scene, Shiva shows the mask to Sensei. Sensei scoffs at the disgraceful waste of a great assassin, not killing when he can. Sensei begins to tell Shiva to form a new contract to any willing hitmen to kill Green Arrow. We hear a voice say, “Oh, now wouldn’t do that.” Sensei is surprised as Ra’s Al Gaul’s hand touches his shoulder and Ra’s continues, “Our allies tell us that there are other ways that can make use out of the Green Arrow…”
