Batman: Cold Hearted
On the GCPD roof talking to Gordon and Yin wait for Batman to answer the batsignal. Batman was hesitant to show at first because Yin was there, he then introduced Robin since Gordon had his partner at the bat-signal for the first time. Gordon says the kid is younger than his daughter and he is out doing this. Robin then talks back and says he is more competent than them. They then discuss a lead for where the gang they have been tracking will be tonight (don’t mention Zucco/Dick).
Batman and Robin go to catch the mob in their meeting but it was interrupted by Mr. Freeze who was there to steal their money. Due to Batman and Robin arguing over which threat to handle, Robin had his leg frozen by Freeze and both he and Zucco get away.
At Batcave, Robin is mad they didn’t get Zucco. Alfred says he is lucky his leg didn’t need to be amputated. Batman says traced bills were used by GCPD to follow the mob. Every time the traced bills are used legally, the cops get a pin, so they were able to put together a short list of places the mom hang out and where they can catch them. Robin insists he is all better and ready to go find Zucco so they leave to investigate the locations.
Victor Freeze is in his lab trying to cure his wife but it isn’t working. His love, Nora Freeze, is suspended cryogenically frozen in his lab. He flips out saying he needs more money. He promises his wife he will do what it takes to cure her, then himself.
Batman and Robin go to another one of the traced places the bills were used at, a race car track. They find Zucco and Robin wants to get him but Batman calls in Gordon and GCPD to get him properly. Robin can’t resist and impulsively goes after Zucco.
While this is happening, Freeze organizes freezing and robbing an armored money truck and hijacks it. Gordon pursues Freeze while Yin and other cops are en route to the race track.
Batman is fighting mobsters while Robin chases/fights Zucco but then Zucco gets into a race car to escape. Robin jumps from car to car until he gets on the roof of Zucco’s. Batman pulls in front to stop him with the Batmobile and Robin yanks Zucco out of the car with anger and accuses Zucco of taking everything away from him. He asks why he does it and Zucco says it’s just a job. This infuriates Robin, who holds one of Zucco’s knives up to his own neck, but Batman yells his name and Robin finds it in himself to drop the knife.
GCPD come in and arrests Zucco and Gordon radios in that Freeze wrecked his squad car and is still risking the lives of the innocent driving the way he is on the streets of the city. Batman and Robin get into the Batmobile to stop him.
A car chase ensues with Freeze shooting ice and making obstacles for the Batmobile. Batman is eventually able to stop the armored truck but Freeze gets out of the car as if he made it to his destination. Freeze gets a shot in on Batman’s cape and sicks him to a wall. Freeze runs off into a building while Robin quickly frees Batman.
They enter Freeze’s building and we see a lab with his cryogenically frozen wife. They look around confused and then Freeze comes out with an attack. They fight and Freeze explains that he was only trying to save his wife, Nora, who has a rare disease without a cure he is trying to fix because he loves her and he has it now too. This explains his cryo-suit. The institution he worked for stopped giving him funding because they do not think there is hope to cure this disease. They say that he is sick and that doesn’t justify putting people’s lives at risk. Batman breaks Freeze’s face mask which gives Freeze no other choice but to shoot his own face in an ice block to save his own life. Freeze is taken to Arkham Asylum and Batman tells Gordan that Nora should be taken somewhere to be taken care of as well. Robin suggests Wayne Medical.
Batman and Robin get back to the Batcave and Alfred talks about the moral of the story with Robin. The moral is: some people do bad things for a bad reason (Zucco), some people do bad things for a good reason (Mr. Freeze), some people do good things for a bad reason (Batman), and some people do good things for a good reason (Robin). Batman walks in on this and says that he is proud of Dick for not being like him and letting go of vengeance instead of seeking it like Bruce does.
