About

Disney's Year of the Meme (known formally as the Year of a Million Memes) was a year-long marketing campaign in Disney's California Adventure, beginning in Summer 2021 to celebrate the parks reopening following the 2020 Coronavirus Lockdowns, during which the park was rethemed to "celebrate the unique internet culture of California" (memes), on the misguided whims of CEO Bob Chapek.

Sing along to your favorite Disney songs over at the Hollywood Backlot Stage, but with a twist: all the songs have been put through multiple layers of online translation, creating new, completely nonsensical lyrics for every show.

The Running of the Weebs

At 4:20 PM everyday, guests can delight in the spectacle of Disney California Adventure's very own Naruto Run... watch in awe as a group of teenagers run up and down the length of Buena Vista Street, their arms outstretched behind them to give them the aerodynamics required to run faster than any ordinary man.

The Great Meme Parade

Every night at Disney's California Ohio Adventure is a special one with the Great Meme Parade, the signature balloon float parade of the event. Here is a short rundown of the parade (watch the video for a visual representation): first, a doggo stands beside a whiteboard revealing the name of the parade, leading to the first main float, a massive Doge Balloon, followed by a similarly large-scaled Pingu, a small float of a single cast member sitting alone at his desk with a new controversial statement each day, a parade float for "the boys" (classic Spider-Man villains), a flex tape salesman theatrically running around fixing holes in a water tube, a dog drinking coffee in a burning building, shocked Pikachu giant balloon, a series of acted setpieces -- starring a woman attacking a cat, a man looking away towards another woman, and a series of increasingly-many duplicate Spider-Men arriving on stage to point at each other -- a giant Pepe the Frog balloon, a stonks float of many dressed actors shouting "stonks", Bernie sitting alone, before finally a gigantic Globe Balloon, revealing to the world it was all Ohio the entire time.

Weeping Woods

Hope you're ready to get off the battle bus, because the Redwood Creek Challenge Trail has been rethemed as the Weeping Woods from Fortnite (thanks to an exclusive Disney and Epic Games partnership), giving guests a chance to explore a Fort and meet some Fortnite heroes like Jonesy and Ramirez (who are always ready to demonstrate a proper flossing technique).

UFO-Burg: Cars Land Retheme

They can't stop all of us when Cars Land is transformed into UFOburg, a tourist trap town out in the desert where the military is selling their surplus goods and training new recruits with their Jerky Jeeps (a retheme of Mater's Junkyard Jamboree), the "out-of-towners" are selling food that's out of this world along with offering a tourist attraction courtesy of their Silly Saucers (a retheme of Luigi's Rollickin' Roadsters), and guests can discover some incredible alien secrets when they ride the Area 51 Raid Racers (a retheme of Radiator Springs Racers).

The Twilight Zone Tower of Terror

It's back permanently, not just for the festival...this is a joke round, so you can't tell me otherwise.

Impact

Disney's Year of the Meme was a massive failure for the once-thriving company, tanking its stock value so low GameStop would purchase the Walt Disney Company and all remaining assets for a meager $220 billion; GameStop then announced on the newly-rebranded GameStop+ that Disney's California Adventure would be rebranded as WestCOT (though the Tower of Terror would still be there), and in that one sensational moment, world peace was at long last achieved.
