Even though brought up in Kerala and being a book lover, I haven't read many Malayalam books. So suggest some good Malayalam books. It can be novels or short stories or even non-fiction. Prefer those written in the twentieth century.

Indugopan, is an Indian screenwriter, director and a writer of Malayalam literature.[1] Known as one of the post-modern writers of Malayalam,[2] Indugopan is the director of the 2007 Malayalam movie, Ottakkayyan, and has published several books which include novels, short story anthologies, memoirs and travelogue.[3]

Ice-1960C, a novel by Indugopan based on nanotechnology and published by DC books, is reported to be the first technology novel in Malayalam.[5][6] His other works include a two novel edition, Cheenkanni Vettakkarante Athmakathayum Muthala Layaniyum,[7][8] Manaljeevikal, dealing with the mineral sand mining areas of Kollam Chavara area,[9] and Iruttu Pathradhipar, short story anthology.[10][11] He is a recipient of several awards such as Abu Dhabi Sakthi Award (2017, for the story Kollappatti Daya),[12] Kumkumam Award, and Ashan Prize.[1][5]

Sahitya Akademi awards are given to works written in 24 languages; i.e. English, Rajasthani, and the 22 Indian Languages listed in the Eighth Schedule of the Indian Constitution. Out of which Malayalam has produced some excellent literary pieces over the years. Out of the many wonderful works we have listed out seven Sahitya Akademi Award winning Malayalam novels that has been translated to English.

Gurusagam, is among the most well-known of Malayalam novels, originally written by the eminent literateur O.V. Vijayan and published by DC Books. It was translated by the author himself along with well-known novelist Ramesh Menon and published by Penguin.

This book was extended reading for my sister in school. It was probably the first malayalam novel I read when I was like 13.But it blew my mind. I never really heard anyone talk about this book. I believe its truly underrated. So glad somebody else enjoyed it too! 2351a5e196
