About the Dayton Ghost 'n Goblin 5k

The Ohio River Road Runner's Club (www.orrrc.org) Dayton Ghost 'n Goblin™ 5k has been a source of Halloween family fun for 33 years (that's since 1985!!). We've provided a fun, safe, and enjoyable 5k road race for generations of families to enjoy, and we'll keep doing it to improve the health of our community! Our race provides for the non-profit ORRRC to give grants to local children's running clubs, put out free/low-cost races for everyone in our community, and encourage a more healthy and active lifestyle in southwest Ohio!

Your Race Directors

Peter Qumsiyeh

Peter loves to run, and loves it when people call him crazy for enjoying it so much. His idea of a relaxing Saturday morning is not sleeping in or watching TV, instead, it’s starting the day with a nice long run to wake him up.

Peter was born in Bloomington, Indiana, but grew up in Bethlehem, Palestine, playing soccer almost every day since he was 2 years old. When Peter moved to Dayton, Ohio in 2006, he thought running was boring. He initially would sprint then stop (just like a soccer player). However, Peter eventually became obsessed with the competitive nature of running, always looking to achieve new goals. After completing his first 5K in 2007, he quickly decided to run a 10K, then a half marathon, then a full marathon… Then what? Peter started working on speed, aiming at finishing those same distances in less time, challenging himself to obtain a personal record whenever possible.

Besides improving his own performance, Peter strives to encourage others to run. “Running one mile is better than zero”, and “Finishing in last place still means you beat millions of others who did not run at all” are some of the things he tells others motivate them. Peter’s goal is to build a bigger/better running community in Dayton, Ohio, by getting everyone to put on good running shoes, get out there, and RUN. With that, Peter is very excited to co-race direct the Ghost 'n Goblin 5K for the first time this year! He can't wait to see everyone there and meet as many of you as possible!!!

Eddie Weaver

Eddie's love for running started in middle school when, after realizing he didn't like to be hit with baseballs or soccer balls, he found Cross Country - a sport where you didn't have to get hit with anything, you just had to run!

The love for running continued to develop over the years: running marathons, ultras, and eventually taking part in triathlons. He's 96% of the way to his goal of running in each state and has run on three continents thanks to the US Air Force, which brought him to the Dayton area.

Although he's not particularly fast (then or now), he still enjoys running and took up race directing the Ghost 'n Goblin™ 5k in 2017 to help spread the love of running to others in the Dayton area. Eddie also serves as the Vice President of the Ohio River Road Runner's Club (ORRRC).
