RICE COUNT

by Jela Dela Peña

About the Project

A study about dream interpretations and surrealism. I mixed the Philippine folklore about this superstition we have that wasting food is a grave sin, and since rice is our staple diet, leaving any bits of rice on your plate means that you will have to count them forever after death in hopes of getting to heaven (which you probably never will). I also get dreams a lot about burying people but because I fall apart without structure, I felt like I needed to form some type of story even though this is an experimental film. The sounds being unsynchronized in some parts are intentional, yes, everything I decided to do in this film has a meaning.
