Dawid Walentek

I am a postdoctoral researcher at the Ghent Institute of International and European Studies (GIES). My work focuses on conflict and cooperation in international relations, with a particular focus on economic sanctions.

My current project investigates the micro-dynamics of sanctions and studies the relation between individual preferences and economic coercion in the European Union. This work is funded by an individual three-year BOF senior fellowship awarded by Ghent University.

Prior to joining Ghent University, I was a postdoctoral researcher at the University of Warsaw and the University of Amsterdam. I completed my PhD in Political Economy at the University of Amsterdam in 2020.

My work appeared in journals such as West European Politics, International Interactions and Journal of European Public Policy.

For my work on economic sanctions, I received the START Award in 2022 from the Polish Foundation for Science (FNP) and the Best Graduate Paper Award in 2019 from the European International Studies Associations (EISA).
