This work started with a colour palette sampled from Tenby South Beach on a cloudy day. I used this to compose the impressionist background and used some of my photographs to add textures. For the roundel, I wanted to give the impression of a stained glass window decoration representing a frame through which we see the world.
Each decorated pane has a different design structure and, if you look closer, there's a smaller design within the larger structure.
Ultimately, this work came to be about the way we are calmed by interacting with nature at different levels — from the broad sweep of a landscape to the intricate patterns of wavelets — and how this relates to the sense of relaxation derived from the process of producing the work.
