While I consider myself a very approachable and caring instructor, I feel that my online presence showed a lack of human presence. I feel that my online students never felt as connected to the course compared to my in person teaching. I have always done my best to deliver class content, but I was limited with what tools I could use to demonstrate the ideas of Calculus to my students.
I have only discovered the tip of the iceberg, I have come across various apps, websites and software to enhance my ability to deliver instruction. I have a basic understanding of how to create and edit videos, and new ideas on how to make my online students feel that they are part of a community. Each week of the course, we have worked on a meaningful project that I will be able to implement into my classes in one way or another.
As remote classes become more common, I feel more confident in my ability to teach online. I hope to continue to improve my video making on Screen Pal and Adobe as I think students would greatly benefit from having online resources. I hope to create a library of videos over the next few years that I can refer my students to whether they are taking my course online or in person. I also love the idea of uploading the videos to Youtube as students from other schools could also benefit from the content. However I have some work to do on video creation before I take the next step!
