Hello! I am a journalist, editor, and historian.
I am currently an editor at The CNET Group, which publishes CNET, ZDNET, Mashable, PCMag, and Lifehacker. I produce multimedia branded content and edit Perspectives, our first-person thought leadership franchise. Previously, I was Weekend Editor at The Daily Beast and Newsweek, a reporter for Politics Daily, and a writer for Slate. My essays and reporting have also appeared in The New Republic, New York, The Chronicle of Higher Education, The Point, Jacobin, Dissent, Commonweal, and a few others I've probably forgotten. I've written about almost every subject imaginable, but my work has especially focused on U.S. politics, religion, labor, and LGBT issues.
Alongside my media career, I earned my PhD in intellectual history, which explored social scientists as public intellectuals and political organizers in the U.S. and Europe. I was Visiting Assistant Professor of History at Boston College and a fellow at the Clough Center for Constitutional Democracy. Some of my scholarly work is forthcoming in Cold War Liberalism: Power in a Time of Emergency (Cambridge University Press, 2026).
