David Hastings Eckerd College Professor

David Hastings Eckerd College Professor is a distinguished marine geochemist and chemical oceanographer who made his mark in Tampa Bay in 2000 as an esteemed educator at Eckerd College, where he taught marine science, environmental science, and chemistry. His academic journey began with a focus on chemistry at Princeton University, laying the groundwork for his future endeavours. This led him to pursue a PhD in chemical oceanography at the renowned University of Washington.

David's primary research interest lies in paleoclimatology, as he delves into ocean sediments to unveil the complex history of past climate changes. Moreover, he actively investigates the repercussions of the Gulf of Mexico oil spill on ocean sediments and the presence of microplastics in marine ecosystems.

Recognizing the importance of scientists' active engagement in policy conversations, David advocates for constructive dialogues with the public and elected officials. He emphasizes the urgency of taking action in Florida to mitigate the most severe impacts and offers pragmatic solutions alongside scientific evidence.
