Empty homes in London

Nationwide Building Society (my day job) is an active supporter of Action on Empty Homes, who campaign for vacant property to be brought back into use for people in housing need.

It's a cause I wholeheartedly support so I got in touch with Chris Bailey, their national campaign manager, to ask if I could try visualising the issue.

He very generously made their research data available to me and it turned into this interactive about the empty homes problem in London.

I hope it highlights two very stark sides to the story, but also the opportunity these homes represent to those in greatest need.

Action on Empty Homes used the final visualisation on social media to raise awareness of the issue and I was pleased to see it stimulate the debate.
