Today, every aspect of operating, managing and investing/funding/understanding a business, nonprofit (NGO) and government entity is more efficient with a dashboard.

However, most dashboards are the output of data platforms generic to the system your entity is using. Finance and accounting have proprietary ones linked to software, marketing and sales have another, another for production. more for distribution, others for funding and still more for services and operations.

Some of us are numbers oriented. It is easy to look at a series of numbers and quickly understand the scope and scale of their meaning as well as how they apply to past, present and future performance. However those of us that have that gift also experience the ugly aspect of explaining, convincing and promoting the reality of the situation and effects of different ways to move forward.

In reality, that is the basis of a dashboard. A glance at your car's dashboard let's you know almost everything that is going on with your transportation - all the while you are driving. Higher end ones are phenomenal. They talk, alarm, and auto-steer.

Organizational entities are just like that. Every business, nonprofit, and government entity starts with doing what is necessary for sustainability. Then it gets complicated. Reporting requirements, planning, communicating with everyone involved (Stakeholders), and personal sanity requires us to visualize the entire organization and the environment it operates within - all the while operating.

So, we've gone from pencil sketches to forms, to spreadsheets, to PowerPoint presentations to video explanations. Now we're moving on interactive live dashboards.

COVID-19-Testing-2020

This dashboard is based on the country's response to the pandemic. This one is covering the COVID-19 testing that has been taking place. The data is from the CDC and another Federal database. The dashboard is meant to be intuitive and self explanatory.

The focus on COVID is moving rapidly to vaccinations from testing. The data for this dashboard has stopped being updated as of the beginning of Feb 2021. We plan on having it re-configured to cover vaccinations in the next iteration. Also, the testing data includes multiple tests of some of the same people, so a high percentage of tests per population is somewhat artificial and only an indicator of the amount of tests done.
