Motivation

"I am a commuting San Francisco State University student from San Jose. Each week I add close to 450 to 600 miles to my odometer. I have been the victim of grey area accidents and witnessed many horrific collisions on my drives. With the dash cam app I would be able to show the exact circumstances and provide the truth to insurance companies."

Abstract

In the U.S. there are 250 million registered vehicles on the road. This high volume of drivers increases the likelihood of an accident. Time spent on deliberating who was at fault is time wasted. The purpose of the Dash Cam App is to alleviate this unpleasant process by providing an unbiased source of evidence. The Dash Cam App takes advantage of the iPhone’s accelerometer and camera by recording and saving video clips due to sudden changes in acceleration

Implementation

Hardware
- Front facing camera on Iphone
- Three axis accelerometer built in iPhone
Frameworks:
- Coremotion
- AVFoundation

By collecting real time accelerations in on three axis, we achieved finding a threshold to trigger an alert to an event occurring on the road.
