My name is Ankur Das. I was born and brought up in Kolkata, India, and I have been an Assistant Professor at IISER Tirupati since March 2024.
My central research interest is topology in quantum systems, understood in the broadest possible sense. I am interested in how topology emerges, is modified, and manifests itself across interacting, noninteracting, equilibrium, nonequilibrium, closed, open, static, and periodically driven quantum systems. My work spans quantum Hall physics, mesoscopic systems, graphene, topological insulators and semimetals, quantum magnets, quantum Hall interfaces, open quantum systems, renormalization-group approaches, and the topological classification of band structures and their defects.
During my graduate studies at the University of Kentucky from 2015 to 2020, I worked with Prof. Ganpathy Murthy and Prof. Ribhu Kaul on the effects of magnetic fields in monolayer graphene, which formed the subject of my doctoral thesis. From 2020 to 2024, I was a postdoctoral researcher at the Weizmann Institute of Science, where I worked with Prof. Yuval Gefen on mesoscopic systems and quantum Hall phenomena.
I use both analytical and numerical methods to investigate how topology shapes the structure, dynamics, responses, and observable properties of quantum matter.
