Functional NanocompositeS Laboratory

Department of Chemical Engineering, IISER Bhopal, India

In all things of nature there is something of the marvelous. - Aristotle

We carry out interdisciplinary research in the areas of Materials Science and Nanotechnology in our FunNanoCom Lab, established in September 2018. We aim to address some of the technologically and scientifically challenging environmental and societal concerns by developing new functional materials with a particular focus on sustainability. We design inorganic-organic functional nanocomposites (films, fibers, hydrogels) taking inspiration from nature, using materials at different length scales, and focusing on critical points like interfacial interactions, surface engineering, mechanical synergy, and functionality for targeted applications such as structural, barrier, environmental, energy, sensing, agricultural, and biomedicine.  Our key research areas are highlighted here.
