The event was the first-ever Gibraltar Darts Trophy, sponsored by the Government of Gibraltar at a reported cost of Â100,000. Although it was not broadcast live, it was covered by Sky Sports.[5] The trophy was presented by the territory's Sports Minister, Stephen Linares.[3] Four Gibraltarian players participated as home nation qualifiers, but were all eliminated in the opening round.[6]
