Privacy Policy for Gmail Dark Mode - Smart Theme
Last Updated: August 18, 2026
1. Introduction
"Gmail Dark Mode - Smart Theme" ("we", "our", or "the extension") is committed to protecting your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains how our Chrome extension operates, what data is processed, and specifically why each requested browser permission is required.
2. Overview of Data Collection
We respect your privacy. We do NOT collect, read, store, or transmit your personal emails, inbox messages, contact lists, or personal browsing history. All styling and theme operations are performed locally on your device.
3. Detailed Permissions Usage and Justification
In accordance with Google Chrome Web Store policies, below is the exact justification for each permission requested by the extension:
a) "storage" Permission
- Purpose: Used to save your local UI preferences (such as enabling/disabling dark mode, selected theme styles, brightness, and contrast levels).
- Licensing & State: Used to store license subscription status and trial usage count locally via chrome.storage.local and chrome.storage.sync so your settings persist across browser sessions and devices.
b) "cookies" Permission
- Purpose: Strictly used to read and set a trial timestamp cookie for the domain https://myexthub.com.
- Reason: This prevents trial abuse upon re-installation and ensures seamless recognition of your subscription/trial status without requiring invasive tracking.
c) Host Permission: "*://mail.google.com/*"
- Purpose: Required to apply CSS stylesheets and dark mode theme filters (dim, sepia, dark, contrast, brightness) directly to Gmail web pages.
- Data Access: The extension only modifies visual presentation (CSS/DOM classes). It does NOT read, intercept, or modify your email messages or account data.
d) Host Permission: "https://myexthub.com/*"
- Purpose: Required to communicate with our licensing and authentication backend (MyExtHub).
- Reason: Allows the extension to check subscription status, synchronize Pro license activation, and manage your account seamlessly.
4. Third-Party Services
We use Stripe and MyExtHub for secure payment processing and subscription management. When you upgrade to Pro, payment data is processed securely through Stripe and MyExtHub. We never have access to your credit card or financial details.
5. Data Security
We implement standard security measures to ensure all transmitted licensing requests are made securely over HTTPS. We do not sell, rent, or trade your data to any third parties.
6. Changes to This Privacy Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Any changes will be reflected with an updated "Last Updated" date at the top of this document.
