It should be known that Extremism, leniency and moderation are all to be understood in reference to Shari'ah. Whatever is in accordance with Shari'ah is moderate; whatever exceeds that is extreme and whatever falls short of that is laxity. The standard in all cases is Shari'ah and the meaning of moderation is that which is in accordance with the Shari'ah. Whatever is in accordance with Shari'ah is moderate.
Islam is never extreme in any approach, Quran and Sunnah are loaded with verses that are against extremism, Allah said (interpretation of the meaning): Allah intends for you ease and does not intend for you hardship
Also: He has chosen you and has not placed upon you in the religion any difficulty.
Also: And Allah wants to lighten for you [your difficulties]; and mankind was created weak.
And: Allah does not charge a soul except [with that within] its capacity.
the Prophet (peace be upon him) as Aisha reported that he makes a choice between two things by adopting the easier one as compared to the difficult one in case it did not involve any sin, but if it involved sin he was the one who was the farthest from it amongst the people, and he also said: The religion (of Islam) is easy, and whoever makes the religion a rigor, it will overpower him. So, follow a middle course (in worship); if you can't do this, do something near to it and give glad tidings and seek help (of Allah) at morn and at dusk and some part of night.
He also said: Allah is Forbearer and He loves forbearance, and rewards for forbearance while He does not reward severity, and does not give for any thing besides it (forbearance).
So after all of this it should be obvious that Islam is never extreme and never accept extremism because it’s against its basic teachings, but the understanding of people is mostly according to their intentions not evidences, otherwise no one with pure intention will reject anything mentioned in Quran and Authentic Sunnah with any kind of excuses or justifications.
