The Story
Wild Man of the Woods
This wasn't the first title I thought of while creating this picture. I originally had in mind a sort of Tarzan figure, a grown-up Mowgli perhaps, an 'enfant sauvage' living among and communicating with the animal kingdom.
I considered calling it Adam (as in the first man) but didn't really want to get into religious connotations. Then I remembered the phrase 'Wild Man of the Woods' and decided that was perfect, and still vague enough to give full scope to the viewer's imagination.
Let me just add that I'm referring to the medieval Europe-wide myth of strange hairy humans living feral in the forest. Not, unfortunately, Tony Hancock's brilliant 1957 radio sketch 'The Wild Man of the Woods' - a work of art in its own right!
All paintings are in acrylic on canvas (mounted on a rigid support) and framed.
