In celebration of Tourism Day, guests and residents of the St. Petersburg city visited a completely new format of the festival:
For four days on one square in the city center, visitors saw multimedia installations, visited a gastronomic festival of Russian regions, listened to performances of modern bands and enjoyed a bright evening show.
On the fenced-in area of Dvortsovaya Square there were tents and pavilions of different sizes, with different decor and branding. Each of them presented a thematic multimedia installation showing St. Petersburg as the capital of urban phenomena. The central point of the festival was a fountain, which became a part of the show.
The installation consists of a boat or a sap where the guest stands up and the screens surrounds him. With the help of a paddle, you can move along the canals, choosing your own route
In a separate pavilion it will be possible to play interactive multimedia sport games: play tic tac toe with a soccer ball and make bridges with the help of bicycle pedals.
The guest stands in front of a volumetric model of St. Petersburg, where the points of the new tourist geography are built separately. Using a joystick, the guest moves a light indicator around the layout, triggering a projection on each object.
The pavilion was divided into two parts: the bounce house and the slide. Interactive cushions were used for the jumps. The cushions were illuminated by projection and detected by a depth camera. As soon as a child jumped on the cushion, it was accompanied by an animation.
A depth camera was also used for the interactive slide, and the graphics changed over time. These included drawings on a checkered sheet, watercolor paints, and cartoon icons of the festival.
The installation used polarizing tape placed separately from the screens. The tape was decorated in the windows of houses. A composition was assembled from the screens. Only through these windows from the tape the visitor could see the video content. Without the windows, the visitor saw only a white screen. Each window decoration was associated with a time of year.
With the help of interactive panels, you can choose an architectural style, which will immediately be projected onto the trolleybus model. Several people can participate in the interactive at the same time.
The installation is a specially constructed courtyard-well: four walls and the sky above. Inside the courtyard, at some point the walls disappear, revealing the inner workings of the house, while inside the apartments various scenes are played out. Somewhere an artist paints a picture, somewhere an apartment party gathers, somewhere scenes from the ordinary life of some era, etc.
A corner screen replaced the wall of one of the pavilions. 3D image as if jumping out onto the square, dynamic infographics telling about tourism in St. Petersburg, broadcast of the evening show from the Dvortsovaya Square.
In this project I was involved in all stages of development and realization. Together with my colleagues from the events agency, the concept of the festival was worked out. Variants of installations were proposed, and I had to confirm their possibility of realization and further implementation.
I was standing in the position of the technical director of the interactive installations department. I developed basic technical concepts, and such tasks as:
Management and planning,
Selection of equipment and programs,
Drawing up functional schemes,
Terms of reference for developers,
Search for executors of program solutions and content,
Budget coordination,
Purchase of necessary equipment and tools,
Installation and calibration,
Control over the work of the technical team and programmers,
Full service on the opening day,
Instruction on maintenance on other days of the event,
Dismantling,
Logistics.
I designed all the interactive solutions such as:
Interactive paddle running on custom IR tags and Optitrack cameras inside TouchDesignr software,
An interactive bicycle running on Arduino sensors,
Jumpers and slide running on Realsense and Kinect depth cameras,
Video switching panel on Arduino,
Pandora's AirScan Lidar soccer ball detection solution.
