Peace Corps Ghana

Woé zɔ loo!! (This translates to "You are welcome!" in Ewe, a local dialect of the Volta Region of Ghana)

In June 2018, I left San Francisco Airport to spend two years in Ghana, West Africa as a middle grades mathematics teacher.

My primary duty was to serve as a classroom teacher of first year junior high students. My job not only entailed teaching various topics of mathematics such as algebra and long division, but also writing lesson plans and assigning and grading classwork, homework, and exams. In addition to working in the classroom, my role also consisted of assisting students outside of class through activities such as reading, physical activities, and the arts. Additionally, I had the opportunity to collaborate with Ghanaian teachers by sharing lesson plans, observe them teaching and have them watch me, and overall, work together to strengthen student learning and school sustainability.
