This collection, made exclusively for Calligaris, is inspired by the landscapes, colors, qualities, and feelings of National Parks. Pottery bears a strong connection to the earth and these places preserve and honor our planet's abundant beauty. This is a collection borne of travels throughout the United States, some actual, some yet to be realized. It’s a country of dreams and in evoking its majestic vistas, this collection carries these visions of nature into your home. It is my belief that using meaningful, beautiful objects on a daily basis enhances one’s well-being. Every piece is lovingly handmade, thoughtfully crafted on the pottery wheel with white stoneware clay and carefully shepherded through the drying, trimming, glazing, and firing processes. Months of experimentation led to these unique glaze combinations, each piece at once part of a family and one-of-a-kind.

In the summer of 2017, I met an artist whose father shares my father’s name (Joo). She recommended I try pottery. Though a curiosity at the time, it was far from a concrete plan, until just a few days later, when I ran into her on the street. It’s then that I followed this signal more seriously. I soon found an instant affinity to this ancient art form and its confluence of aesthetics, functionality, hands-on physicality, meditative quality, and alchemy. It's been a consistent, abundant source of joy ever since.
The journey here has been comprised of multiyear periods of drawing/painting, writing poems, philosophy, software testing, filmmaking, cooking, stone carving, and collage; each one an integral stepping stone to my current practices.
Along with pottery, I am an energy healer. I believe all objects, beings, and activities bear certain energies, partially determined by your interaction with them. In pottery, we create vessels, and in energy healing, we are the vessel. Both involve refining raw materials with heightened sensitivity and embracing the unknown. Through these callings, I feel deeply connected to the earth and it’s uplifting to share them.
