If you want a wireless, all-in-one solution with active noise cancellation and 35 hours of battery life for your MacBook, choose DALI IO-12; if you need open-back audiophile precision, planar magnetic detail, and the ultimate soundstage for critical listening at home, choose HIFIMAN HE600.
• DALI IO-12: Offers Hi-Fi wireless freedom with active noise cancellation, a 35-hour battery, and a luxury leather build, but lacks the absolute transparency of an open-back design.
• HIFIMAN HE600: Delivers rare-earth-free planar magnetic performance with exceptional weight reduction and a massive soundstage, but requires a wired connection and powerful amplifier.
• The Verdict on Fit: The DALI IO-12 is built for the mobile professional who needs silence and battery life, while the HIFIMAN HE600 is the definitive choice for the stationary audiophile chasing pure sonic fidelity.
The DALI IO-12 is engineered for the user who refuses to compromise between high-fidelity audio and the convenience of modern connectivity. Its primary appeal lies in its ability to function as a true Hi-Fi speaker system for your head, utilizing patented Soft Magnetic Compound (SMC) driver technology. This material, originally developed for their EPICON loudspeakers, drastically reduces eddy currents and hysteresis, resulting in a near-distortion-free sound that captures every breath and drumbeat with startling realism. If you are looking for the best wireless earbuds for macbook workflows where you move between meetings, coffee shops, and commuting, this is the device designed to keep you immersed without interruption.
The battery performance here is not just a feature; it is a fundamental part of the experience. With up to 35 hours of peerless noise-canceling playback, you can leave your charging case behind for days. The headphones include battery level LEDs and voice prompts, ensuring you never run out of power unexpectedly. Combined with Bluetooth 5.2 and aptX Adaptive technology, the IO-12 ensures that your wireless transmission remains stable and high-quality, whether you are streaming from a laptop or connecting to a smartphone. The active noise cancellation effectively blocks out low-frequency distractions, making it ideal for travel or noisy office environments where focus is paramount.

Comfort is another pillar of the IO-12's design, specifically tailored for extended listening sessions. The unit features a real leather headband and oversized square ear pads made from soft materials, providing a luxurious feel that prevents fatigue during long workdays. The enclosure is built for durability, using robust materials that stand up to daily wear and tear. It also includes a protective carrying case, making it a practical travel companion. However, you should skip this model if you require an open-back design for spatial awareness or if you strictly prefer a wired-only setup for zero-latency monitoring. While it includes a microphone suitable for clear voice calls and recordings, it is primarily a music-first device that prioritizes immersion over studio isolation.
The HIFIMAN HE600 is a re-invention of a classic, designed specifically for the listener who demands the highest possible resolution and transparency from their audio gear. As an open-back, over-ear planar magnetic headphone, it creates a soundstage that feels wider than your physical space, offering a sense of depth and airiness that closed-back designs simply cannot replicate. This is the choice for the enthusiast who treats their desk setup as a dedicated listening room. Unlike the DALI, which focuses on portability, the HE600 is about uncompromised fidelity. It successfully replicates the legendary sound signature of the HE6 headphones, delivering a sonic performance comparable to systems driven by high-power amplifiers.
At the heart of the HE600 is the Neo Supernano diaphragm Gen.2, which has been thinned down to 60% of the first-generation product's thickness. This reduction allows for faster transient response and incredibly detailed treble without losing body in the mids. The driver utilizes rare-earth-free permanent magnetic materials, an engineering feat that achieves sensitivity levels matching traditional rare-earth drivers while being more sustainable. The impedance sits at 28 ohms with a sensitivity of 94 dB, meaning it pairs well with standard headphone amplifiers found in many desktop setups, though it will shine brightest when paired with a robust power source capable of driving its dynamic range.
Weight and ergonomics have seen significant improvements in this second-generation model. HIFIMAN reduced the total weight by 20 grams compared to its predecessor, bringing the total to 389 grams. This reduction, combined with a rotatable hinge system and an enhanced ergonomic headband, makes it surprisingly comfortable for long listening sessions despite its large size. The plastic enclosure is durable yet lightweight, finished in a sleek silver color. You must consider the connectivity constraints before buying: these are wired-only headphones with a 3.5mm jack. There is no Bluetooth, no active noise cancellation, and no battery. If you are looking for neckband headphones for macbook use while walking around campus or working in a cafe, this is not the tool for you. It is strictly for a stationary environment where you can dedicate yourself fully to the music.

For my own daily workflow, especially when integrating audio into a MacBook environment that involves both focused work and movement, I would buy the DALI IO-12. The combination of SMC driver technology and 35 hours of battery life provides a level of versatility that the HIFIMAN simply cannot match in a real-world scenario. While the HIFIMAN HE600 offers superior open-back acoustics for a dedicated listening chair, the DALI IO-12 is the only one that truly functions as a complete package for the modern user who needs spatial audio capabilities and noise cancellation on the go. It bridges the gap between high-end audio and practical utility, making it the smarter investment for most people.
Yes, the DALI IO-12 supports Bluetooth 5.2 and works seamlessly with macOS devices, making them excellent for wireless audio integration.
Yes, the HIFIMAN HE600 includes a wired connection via a 3.5mm Jack, but you will need to ensure your source device has the appropriate output or adapter.
The DALI IO-12 is significantly better for this purpose because it features active noise cancellation, whereas the HIFIMAN HE600 is open-back and lets outside sound in.
No, the HIFIMAN HE600 is a wired-only headphone with no internal microphone or Bluetooth connectivity, so it is not suitable for wireless calls or gaming without additional equipment.
