Strategic Planning

If these 10 years in education have taught me anything, it is that schools are systems in perpetual motion. That is why I feel that actively pursuing strategic planning in schools is key. Strategic plans help pull educational communities in a more purposeful direction for students; and that should be a top concern for every stakeholder in a school community.

Over the past 7 years at my school, I have been fortunate enough to have helped strategically plan the direction of my school in various ways. The first was when I helped write the 2018 FDR Strategic Plan that defined our strategic objectives and development for the next 5 years. Specifically, I crafted the fourth strategy of the tech plan; how FDR uses technology in learning. The second initiative was the 'Tech Vision Committee' which again gathered all stakeholders to identify and define how we as a community feel technology should be used in a perfect future at FDR. Through a series of workshops and development programs, this committee eventually led to the creation of the FDR Tech Plan which served as the guiding document for how technology for learning will be implemented at our school for the next 3 years.

Of course, creating these documents is in itself an essential task for schools to undertake, but it was also a chance to further coach and develop our community of educators, parents and students in some new educational technologies and to model some effective teaching strategies. The FDR Ed Tech Committee meetings were a BLAST! Participants could not have been more engaged in the work of creating a tech plan!
