This Privacy Policy applies to the "Prompt - Daily Trending Prompt" Android
application (hereinafter referred to as "the App", "we", "us", or "our") published by
Daily Prompt Studio on the Google Play Store. By downloading, installing, or using the
App, you agree to the terms described in this Privacy Policy.
If you do not agree with any part of this policy, please do not use the App.

1. INFORMATION WE COLLECT

We are committed to collecting only the minimum data necessary to operate, improve,
and maintain the App. We do NOT collect any personally identifiable information (PII)
such as your name, email address, phone number, or physical address through the App
unless you voluntarily contact us.
1.1 DEVICE IDENTIFIER (Installation ID)

When you first launch the App, a randomly generated unique identifier (UUID v4) is
created and stored locally on your device using Android SharedPreferences. This ID:
• Is randomly generated — it is NOT linked to your Google account, Android ID,
IMEI, phone number, or any other system identifier.
• Is used solely to count unique device installations and measure daily active usage
patterns on our backend analytics dashboard.
• Cannot be used to personally identify you.
• Is transmitted to our secure backend server on each API request via the HTTP header
"x-device-id".
1.2 APP VERSION

The version name of the App (e.g., "1.0.1") is sent to our servers via the HTTP header
"x-app-version" to help us understand which app version is in active use, so we can
prioritise compatibility fixes and updates.
1.3 DEVICE COUNTRY
--------------------
The display country derived from your device's system locale settings (e.g., "Pakistan",
"United States") is sent to our servers via the HTTP header "x-device-country". This is
used purely for aggregated geographic analytics (e.g., "How many users are from Asia?").
This data does NOT expose your precise location, GPS coordinates, or city-level details.
1.4 IP ADDRESS (Server-Side, Automatic)

Like all internet-connected services, our backend server may automatically log your IP
address when your device makes an API request (e.g., loading prompts, searching). This
is a standard practice for server operations. IP addresses may be used to:
• Detect and block abusive or malicious traffic.
• Determine an approximate country of origin (as a fallback when device country is
unavailable), using a third-party geolocation service (ip-api.com). The IP itself
is not stored permanently beyond server log rotation policies.
1.5 USAGE STATISTICS (Aggregated & Anonymous)

When you interact with prompts, we collect anonymised statistics to understand content
performance:
• Prompt views : Recorded when you open a prompt's detail screen.
• Prompt copies: Recorded when you tap the "Copy" button.
• Search queries: Your search terms may be logged anonymously to help us curate
better trending search suggestions in the app's Search screen.
All of the above statistics are tied only to the anonymous Installation ID described
in Section 1.1, never to any real identity.
1.6 LOCALLY STORED DATA (On-Device Only)

The following data is stored exclusively on your device and is NEVER transmitted to
our servers:
• Saved / Favourite Prompts: Prompts you save using the heart icon are stored in a
local SQLite database (Room) on your device. This data is private to your device.
• App Preferences: Settings such as your scroll position, shimmer loading state, and
first-launch flags are stored locally in SharedPreferences.

2. INFORMATION WE DO NOT COLLECT

We do NOT collect, process, or store any of the following:
✗ Your name, email address, or phone number (no account / sign-up required)
✗ Your precise GPS location or location coordinates
✗ Your contacts, calendar, or microphone data
✗ Your camera or photos
✗ Your Android Device ID, IMEI, MAC address, or SIM serial number
✗ Any biometric data
✗ Any payment or financial information
✗ Sensitive personal categories of data (health, religion, ethnicity, etc.)
✗ Children's personal data (see Section 9)

3. HOW WE USE THE INFORMATION

The limited data we collect is used exclusively for:
a) App Operations
- Serving prompt content, categories, collections, and search results
from our backend API in real time.
b) Analytics & Product Improvement
- Counting total unique devices and daily/monthly active users.
- Understanding geographic distribution of users to improve content relevancy.
- Identifying popular prompts to curate featured and trending content.
- Monitoring app version adoption to plan deprecation and update timelines.
c) Technical Maintenance
- Diagnosing server errors and API failures using server logs.
- Preventing abuse, spam, or automated scraping of our content API.
d) Push Notifications (Optional)
- The App may send you optional daily writing reminders via push notifications.
You can enable or disable these at any time through your device's system
notification settings. We do NOT use a third-party push service that requires
personal data registration for notifications to function.
We do NOT sell, rent, trade, or otherwise transfer your data to third parties for
marketing, advertising, or profiling purposes.

4. DATA SHARING WITH THIRD PARTIES

We share data only under the following limited circumstances:
4.1 IP Geolocation Service (ip-api.com)
When your Installation ID is new or your country could not be detected from
your device locale, our backend server may call the ip-api.com free geolocation
API with your IP address to determine your country. This service operates under
ip-api.com's own privacy policy (https://ip-api.com/docs/legal). The result
(country name only) is stored anonymously on our server against your Installation
ID. Your IP is not stored by us beyond standard server log rotation.
4.2 Google Play Services (Operating System Level)
The App operates on Android devices. Google Play Services may collect certain
device and usage metrics as part of the Android operating system. This is outside
our control and governed by Google's Privacy Policy:

4.3 Future Ad Networks (Planned — Not Yet Active)
The App currently contains NO third-party advertising SDKs or monetisation
networks. If ads are introduced in a future version, this Privacy Policy will be
updated before that version is published, and users will be notified via an
in-app update notice. Any future ad SDK integration will fully comply with
Google Play's Families Policy and applicable data privacy regulations.
4.4 Legal Requirements
We may disclose information if required to do so by applicable law, court order,
or governmental authority, or if we believe disclosure is necessary to protect
the rights, property, or safety of our users, ourselves, or the public.
We do NOT share your data with data brokers, marketers, social networks, or any
other third parties beyond what is described in this section.

5. DATA RETENTION
────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────
• Installation ID & Analytics Records: Retained on our servers for up to 24 months
from the last time the App was actively used (last_active_at timestamp).
After this period, the record is automatically eligible for deletion.
• Server Access Logs (IP addresses): Retained for a maximum of 90 days for security
and debugging purposes, then automatically rotated and deleted.
• Search Query Logs: Retained in aggregate form for up to 6 months to power the
"Trending Searches" feature.
• Locally Stored Data (Favourites, Preferences): This data lives on your device.
It is deleted when you uninstall the App or clear the App's data from
Android Settings → Apps → Daily Prompt → Storage → Clear Data.
You may request deletion of your server-side analytics record at any time by
contacting us at support@dailyprompt.app with the subject "Data Deletion Request".
Since we cannot personally identify you, we will instruct you to locate your
Installation ID (if accessible) or we will process bulk deletion based on reasonable
timeframe criteria.

6. DATA SECURITY

We take reasonable technical and organisational measures to protect the data we
collect, including:
• All API communications between the App and our backend server use HTTPS (TLS
encryption) in production deployments to protect data in transit.
• Our backend server is hosted in a secured environment with access controls
and firewall protections.
• We do not store any sensitive credentials or payment data.
• Local data (Room database) is stored in the App's private storage sandbox on your
Android device, which is not accessible to other apps without root access.
No method of electronic transmission or storage is 100% secure. While we strive to
use commercially acceptable means to protect your data, we cannot guarantee absolute
security.

7. YOUR RIGHTS & CHOICES

Depending on your jurisdiction, you may have the following rights:
7.1 Right to Know / Access
You have the right to request information about what data we hold relating to
your anonymous Installation ID.
7.2 Right to Deletion
You may request deletion of your analytics record by contacting us at
support@dailyprompt.app. See Section 5 for details.
7.3 Right to Opt Out of Analytics
You may prevent analytics data from being sent by operating the App in
Airplane Mode or blocking network access via your device's firewall settings.
Note that this will also prevent content from loading.
7.4 Push Notification Opt-Out
You can disable push notifications at any time from:
Android Settings → Apps → Daily Prompt → Notifications → Toggle Off
7.5 Uninstalling the App
Uninstalling the App from your device removes all locally stored data
(favourites, preferences). Your anonymous server-side analytics record may
remain until its retention period expires or you request deletion.
7.6 GDPR (European Users)
If you are located in the European Economic Area (EEA), you have additional
rights under the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), including the right
to data portability and to lodge a complaint with a supervisory authority.
Our lawful basis for processing is Legitimate Interest (analytics for service
improvement) and Consent (push notifications).
7.7 CCPA (California Users)
If you are a California resident, you have the right to know what personal
information is collected, the right to request deletion, and the right to
opt out of the "sale" of personal information. We do NOT sell personal
information.
7.8 PDPL / Pakistani Users
We are committed to complying with Pakistan's Personal Data Protection Law
(PDPL) principles, including data minimisation, purpose limitation, and
user rights of access and erasure.

8. CHILDREN'S PRIVACY (COPPA / GDPR-K)
────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────
The App is intended for general audiences and is NOT directed at children under the
age of 13 (or 16 where applicable under GDPR).
We do NOT knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If we become
aware that a child under 13 has provided us with personal information, we will take
steps to delete such information from our servers.
The App contains creative writing prompts intended for all ages. However, parents and
guardians should review the App's content and supervise use by younger children.
If you believe we have inadvertently collected data from a child under 13, please
contact us immediately at support@dailyprompt.app.
9. PERMISSIONS REQUESTED BY THE APP
The App requests the following Android permissions:
INTERNET
--------
Required to load prompt content, categories, banners, and search results from our
backend API. Without this permission, the App cannot function online.
This is a Normal Permission (does not require user approval dialog).
ACCESS_NETWORK_STATE
---------------------
Used to check whether an active internet connection is available before making
API requests. Prevents unnecessary error states by detecting offline status early.
This is a Normal Permission.
POST_NOTIFICATIONS (Android 13+)
---------------------------------
Required on Android 13 and above (API 33+) to display daily writing reminder
push notifications. This permission is requested at runtime — you can choose to
Allow or Deny. If denied, the App will function normally without notifications.
You can change this at any time from Android Settings → Apps → Daily Prompt →
Notifications.
The App does NOT request permissions for Camera, Microphone, Contacts, Phone State,
Precise Location, Fine Location, or any other sensitive permissions.
10. LINKS TO EXTERNAL SERVICES
The App may contain links to external services such as:
• Google Play Store (for App rating and More Apps)
• Email client (for Feedback)
• External website (for Privacy Policy page)
These external services have their own privacy policies. We are not responsible for
the content, privacy practices, or security of any third-party services accessed
through links in the App.
11. CHANGES TO THIS PRIVACY POLIC
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time to reflect changes in our
practices, technology, legal requirements, or other factors.
When we make changes, we will:
Update the "Last Updated" date at the top of this policy.
Publish the updated policy at our Privacy Policy URL:

Where required by law, provide notice through the App or other appropriate means.
We encourage you to review this policy periodically. Your continued use of the App
after any changes constitutes your acceptance of the updated Privacy Policy.
