Q)How did your journey as an artist begin?
My career as an artist began after I left my position as a therapist for homeless individuals in Sacramento, California.
Q)What are the different forms of artworks that you do?
As a collage artist and photographer, I merge the two mediums by capturing images of flowers, leaves and succulents, then hand-cutting the prints to arrange them on a mat board in a balanced composition.
Q)What is that one line of quote that you abide by in your life or you would like others to follow?
There is a quote I love by Booker T. Washington that I read many years ago and it really stuck with me. I may be paraphrasing here, but he said success is not measured by what you achieve, but by what you have overcome. I love that!
Q)Please tell us a bit about an artwork of yours which you like the most?
My favorite work (so far) is a floral collage I did in 2024. It is called Out Of The Dark (32x40 inches), and it has received awards, including the prestigious Future of Art Global Masterpiece Award.
Q) What are the challenges you face while working on any artwork?
When creating a new collage, I encounter challenges. To produce each piece, I invest considerable time photographing flowers, succulents, and leaves. The process also involves printing each image and carefully cutting out the required elements. Maintaining my 12-colored printer and purchasing ink and photo paper result in significant expenses. While cutting out images is time-consuming and demands patience, I find the task meditative.
Q) What is the thought process while choosing your next artwork?
My thought process when selecting what I want to create next, can sometimes take days before I settle on an idea. Choices involve: types/colors of flowers, leaves, or succulents to be used; size of composition; desired emotional impact, and so forth .
Q)What advice would you give to a young artist following in your steps?
I would advise any young artist to experiment with what brings you joy. In my case, I love each step of my artistic process, from photography, printing photos, hand-cutting dozens of images (most often flowers), and placing them on mat board until it becomes a balanced composition. If you have fun, you will do well.
Q)Who is your Inspiration ?
I am inspired by the flowers painted by Claude Monet and Vincent Van Gogh. I also love Yayoi Kusama’s work.
Q)Would you like to tell about your achievements ?
I have won 8 international awards to date, including the Premier Artist Prize given by Contemporary Art Station, both in 2024 and 2025, which I’m very proud of.
Q)Can you tell us about the process of making your artwork in short ?
I photograph a flower, a leaf or a succulent, and each photo is printed - I have a 12-ink color printer, so each image is beautiful. The next stop involves hand-cutting the images and placing them on a mat board, where they are placed to achieve balance and harmony.
Q)What's coming up for you ,what are you working on?
My next exhibition will be at the Madrid Station in Spain from March 1-31, 2025, put on by Contemporary Art Station. I am very excited about this opportunity!
Thank you
