I was born in Poughkeepsie, New York, USA and in addition to being an artist I'm also an Environmental educator. I had no formal education or training in art besides some art classes I took during high school. I graduated from Marist College with a degree in environmental science. Growing up I was always into drawing, my transition into painting was a fairly recent one. In 2020 I was laid off from work due to the covid 19 pandemic and it was during this time I began painting. It quickly became my primary way of dealing with the stress of that time. Eventually I got back to work (with a new job) and started investing in art supplies, canvas brushes, paint (acrylic) etc. I started posting on Instagram and that led to many opportunities that I am still honoured to have received.
One of which was my work with Norrie Point environmental education center. I was tasked with making a set painting that represents the work the center does. The 7 paintings are currently on display outside the building. Outdoor education and outreach are major aspects of what they do so to illustrate that I made paintings of several species that are often seen and studied at the center. I also got to participate and show my work in conferences, local exhibits and even on this website. To see more of my work please check out my Instagram: @slitherin_arts
