My daily Bible list is specific to me, to December, and to topics that I most need in my life right now. I will be journaling these verses this month using the journal technique I described in the last post, and I invite you to join me!

This unique plan put the Old Testament in Chronological order and then breaks up the New Testament books according to themes in the Old Testament and connects them to the OT daily reading. The result is that you are reading New Testament and Old Testament passages every day. This plan is a six day a week plan, so you have one day to catch up each week if you get behind. The only big disadvantage to this plan is how the NT gets all broken up. Many books of the Bible get scattered throughout the year making it impossible to capture the flow of the New Testament books. Even though this plan might not be for everyone, it does offer a truly unique experience reading through the Old Testament show very deeply how the New Testament fulfills it.

The Daily Texts is a daily devotional guide published yearly since 1731. It is the oldest such guide in continuous use. Begun in Germany as a daily oral tradition, it soon became a regularly printed set of texts for each day of the year.

Printed in over 51 different languages and dialects and with an annual press run of nearly one and a half million, the Daily Texts is probably the most widely used and read devotional guide in the world, next to the Bible itself.

Every Sunday and some church holidays, the Daily Texts page will include the WATCHWORD FOR THE WEEK/HOLIDAY. Like the daily watchword, the weekly/holiday text is to accompany the reader throughout the week or holiday and is related to the events of the church year. These differ every year based upon the lectionary cycle.

The assigned lessons at the top of every page can be a valuable method for daily Bible study. With the exception of Sundays and holidays, they follow a daily pattern of study. The main study passage for the day is the second one listed. Over the period of several weeks or months, these lessons will provide an organized plan of study of an entire book or an important portion of one. The first passage listed is a lesson that is related in theme or content to the main lesson. By following this Bible reading plan, in a year you will have read about half of the books within the Bible.

The daily readings expand the range of biblical reading in worship and personal devotion by providing daily citations for the full three-year cycle of the Revised Common Lectionary. These readings complement the Sunday and festival readings: Thursday through Saturday readings help prepare the reader for the Sunday ahead; Monday through Wednesday readings help the reader reflect on and digest what they heard in worship.

The Daily Bible Reading Plan coincides with weekend worship! Each weekend we will teach on the New Testament readings that you read that week (the reading plan starts on Mondays and goes through Sundays).
