Behind the words
It's a weird time to be writing this. Firstly I am on the verge of self-publishing my first novel. This has been a project that has been nearly ten years in the making and so feels like quite a landmark for me, especially in the year that I turn 40. Secondly, I am writing this while the world is in lockdown for a virus that has altered many people's normality. The chance to click reset on my daily routine and take stock of everything has given me the opportunity to reflect and focus on more creative projects.
Over the years I have dabbled in many of the creative arts. I have tried my hand at writing songs and poetry. I have performed and taken to the stage. I have attempted to draw and paint all with limited success.
During the summer of 2011, I set myself the challenge of writing a novel during the inevitable lull between university years. I found the process rewarding and cathartic in the same instance a great way to pass the time for a person like me. I've never been good at 'switching off' and so it felt like I could channel my restlessness into something constructive. The aim was to keep the project going during my downtime.
After I graduated I became a teacher and at the time, I naively thought that I would be able to continue writing in the numerous holidays that all teachers enjoy. The reality of holidays for teachers is, however, very different and the project was shelved. in the last 4 years, circumstances have allowed me to return to this project and I am finally at a stage where I want to share it with the world. I hope you enjoy.

My first work introduces the world to the character of DCI John Templeton; a world weary Edinburgh detective. Templeton heads up the Serious Crime squad within the Scottish Police Force and with his team investigates anything linked to high profile, organised crime and gang related incidents.
