This project constructed a concrete median barrier to address the potential for cross-median collisions on Highway 101 through the City of Paso Robles. Portions of the existing median landscaping combined with the curvature of the highway had the potential to affect sight distance. Community workshops and interagency meetings were held to develop a design that was in harmony with the local and regional setting. To meet local aesthetic expectations, the concrete barrier was textured using molds that were created from Adelaida limestone quarried near the project site including staining to achieve a natural and realistic look. A combination of native plants and horticulturally appropriate ornamental species were installed to provide a visual connection to the city core.
