Polars FAQs

How are players eligible to tryout and play for the Tier I and Prospects Leagues? Players must live in the boundaries of District 5 hockey. All players in a particular birth year are eligible for the age classification they fall under.

How many players will participate on each team and level? Boys U14 Tier I team has 17 players (9F, 6D, & 2G). The U14 Prospects team has 20 players (12F, 6D, 2G). Girls U14 Tier I has 20 rostered players, plus practice-only players. The U15 Tier I team has 17 players (9F, 6D, & 2G), plus three reserve players.

Who do the teams play against? MN Hockey creates 5-8 teams by district for each level. In addition, teams from around the region (Team North Dakota, Team South Dakota, and Team Wisconsin) and country (Tier I and Tier II teams from New Jersey, Detroit, Arizona, etc.) participate in Showcase weekends.

What if the Tier I season coincides with my association team or tryouts? MN Hockey has amended its participation rule for a player to be dual rostered only in the event that he or she is on a Tier 1 National Tournament eligible team. For that brief time period, a player will be allowed to be on both teams.
Leagues will do their best to avoid interference with a player’s community-based team’s schedule, but players should make every effort to participate with their in-season (association) team’s tryouts, practices and games.
The high school seasons will not be affected as all games will be completed prior to high school teams conducting tryouts.

Will the District 5 Polars have a Girls U14 Prospects team? As of now, we are not planning on having a U14 Girls Prospects team.
