Academic & Clinical Achievements

I am a French physicist (born October 6, 1977) and Research Director at Mines Paris – PSL. I am primarily recognized for my work in solar irradiance forecasting, artificial intelligence, and previously in medical physics.

My multidisciplinary career bridges clinical technologies and renewable energy systems, with over two decades of experience across healthcare, academia, and applied research. I have authored more than 130 peer-reviewed articles, contributed to several national and EU-funded projects (e.g., SAPHIR, Fine4cast, TILOS), and developed tools such as LQL-Equiv, a rare open-source software for radiotherapy dose equivalence, adopted in clinical and academic centers across more than 20 countries. Designed for oncology professionals, it enables transparent and reproducible BED/EQD2 calculations, supporting treatment planning and education worldwide.

My current research focuses on the development of advanced forecasting metrics, hybrid AI models, and energy-aware digital tools for microgrids and climate resilience. I am also also the founder of Phy2A (SIREN 928 694 827), a scientific consultancy specialized in advanced solutions for healthcare, energy, and meteorology and Associate Editor for Scientific Reports (Nature Portfolio).

Background

From 2003 to 2024, I worked as a certified medical physicist (DQPRM) in several French hospitals. I led the Medical Physics and Radiation Protection Unit (UF01795) at CHD Castelluccio (Ajaccio) from 2020 to 2024. During this period, I was involved in treatment planning, radiation safety, and quality assurance in radiotherapy, as well as supporting medical imaging techniques such as CT and SPECT. I contributed to the safety or planning of radiotherapy for more than 10,000 patients.

I co-developed LQL‑Equiv, a freeware tool to calculate biologically equivalent doses in radiotherapy, in collaboration with Daniel Julian [archive]. This software is now used by clinical and academic centers in over 20 countries. In parallel, I held academic positions at the University of Corsica from 2011 to 2023, where I taught physics, thermodynamics, stochastic processes, and biostatistics. I contributed to both undergraduate and graduate programs at the IUT and the engineering school Paoli Tech.

I also held:

  • A visiting researcher position at CNRS UMR 6134 (2013–2015)

  • An associate researcher role at the University of La Réunion (2018–2019)

In 2024, I left the hospital sector to focus entirely on scientific research.

Current Research

I am now a research director at the O.I.E. Laboratory (Observation, Impacts, Energy) at Mines Paris – PSL, based in Sophia Antipolis. His main research focuses on:

  • AI-based solar irradiance forecasting

  • Probabilistic modeling

  • Uncertainty quantification

  • Energy optimization in smart microgrids

Recent innovations include:

  • Clear-sky-free models using extreme learning machines trained directly on raw GHI data.

  • Transfer learning and clustering to adapt forecasting models to locations with little or no data.

  • Complex-valued time series encoding both amplitude and volatility for probabilistic forecasting.

  • The introduction of the Stochastic Coefficient of Variation (sCV) and a new Forecastability Index.

Key publications:

  • Stochastic Coefficient of Variation..., Renewable Energy, 2026

  • Clear-Sky Models in Solar Forecasting, Solar Energy, 2025

  • Transfer Learning for Solar Forecasting, Applied Energy, 2024

  • ML methods for solar radiation forecasting: A review, Renewable Energy, 2017

  • Complex-Valued Time Series for Forecasting, J. Renewable and Sustainable Energy, 2023

  • Hybrid VMAT/3DCRT Planning, Scientific Reports, 2023

Research Projects

I have contributed to several national and European collaborative projects:

  • SAPHIR (ANR): Sensor-Augmented High-Resolution Weather Prediction

  • Fine4cast (ANR): Fine-scale Forecasting for Renewable Systems

  • TILOS (EU):  Battery Storage Optimization for Island Grids

I have also been involved in platforms for hydrogen storage, microgrid simulation, and uncertainty modeling.
