CTE Advocacy

Student Testimonial Essay Submission

Chehalem Valley Watershed Project, Future Farmers of America, and Tiger Manufacturing are asking students in career pathways to voluntarily compose testimonial essays regarding the importance of CTE classes at Newberg High School. These essays will be addressed to the Newberg High School Administrators and Newberg School District School Board, but will most likely be submitted as public comment available to the community, so students should only identify themselves using their name and grade. Furthermore, students should include an introduction, three body paragraphs, and a conclusion statement. Each three sentence body paragraph should answer one of the following questions:

  • What do you like about the CTE pathway you are in?
  • What twenty-first-century skills/knowledge does this CTE pathway provide you?
  • Why should Newberg Public Schools retain/expand this CTE pathway?

Students should refrain from using disrespectful language and specifically calling out individuals or organizations. This essay will be submitted to all three school district administrative teams listed above to represent the student body’s interest in STEAM education and advocate for the opportunities they provide. We are asking all students to submit their completed essay on or before Friday, January 11, 2019 via the Google Classroom link below. Students may use the provided “fill in the blank” essay template, edit the provided template, or construct their own essay format as long as it answers the three questions above. While thorough multi-page essays may be submitted, we are asking students to write a one-page essay at a minimum (approximately 500 words). Essays may be edited for spelling, grammar or fluency after submission.
