Charles Vincent (Entomologist)

BIOGRAPHIE

Charles VINCENT a complété un B.Sc. en bio-agronomie à l’Université Laval (Québec, Qc, Canada), un M.Sc. (1980) et un Ph.D. (1983) en entomologie à l’Université McGill (Montréal, Qc, Canada). De 1983 à août 2021, il a travaillé comme chercheur en entomologie agricole pour le Centre de recherche et de développement en horticulture d’Agriculture et agro-alimentaire Canada à Saint-Jean-sur-Richelieu, Qc, Canada. Il a été nommé professeur adjoint à l’Université McGill en 1984, et à l’Université du Québec à Montréal en 1992. De 2000 à 2020, il a donné un atelier d’écriture scientifique d’un mois à l’Université de Picardie Jules Verne (Amiens, France). Il a co-dirigé les travaux de 36 étudiants gradués et de 100 stagiaires. Il a travaillé sur les alternatives aux insecticides, notamment les méthodes basées sur les connaissances, incluant la lutte biologique (par exemple les biopesticides) et les méthodes de lutte physique. Il a publié 186 articles scientifiques (révisés par les pairs), 11 articles de synthèse (révisés par les pairs), 51 chapitres de livres et plus de 200 articles techniques. Il a édité 25 livres et bulletins techniques. Il a fait > 500 présentations devant des auditoires nationaux et internationaux. (CV complet plus bas).

BIOGRAPHY

 Charles VINCENT completed a B.Sc. in Agriculture at Université Laval (Quebec City, Qc, Canada), a M.Sc. (1980) and a Ph.D. (1983) in Entomology at McGill University (Montreal, Qc, Canada). From 1983 to August 2021, he worked as a research scientist in agricultural entomology for the Horticultural Research and Development Center (Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada) at Saint-Jean-sur-Richelieu, Quebec, Canada. He has been appointed adjunct professor at McGill University in 1984, and at the Université du Québec à Montréal in 1992. From 2000 to 2020, he gave a one-month workshop in scientific writing at l’Université de Picardie Jules Verne (Amiens, France). He co-supervised the work of 36 graduate students and 100 interns. He worked on alternatives to insecticides, notably knowledge-based methods, including biological (e.g. biopesticides) and physical control methods. He published 186 scientific (refereed) articles, 11 review (refereed) articles, 51 book chapters, and more than 200 technical papers. He edited 25 books or technical bulletins. Each year from 1996 to 2019, under the program "Innovators at School" (“Innovateurs à l'école”), C. Vincent gave three days of lectures on insect management to children (primary and secondary schools) of greater Montreal. The objective of the program was to foster careers in science.
