If you want a versatile, angle-adjustable mounting solution for your CURT Discovery brake controller that travels with you between vehicles, choose CURT 51125; if you need a high-visibility, direct-replacement pneumatic brake button specifically designed for semi-trailer push-pull valves, choose Omquot Red Trailer Air. These two products solve fundamentally different problems for the driver who is already on the road or preparing for a long haul. One is a hardware foundation for your control interface, while the other is a critical safety component for your braking system's physical input. Getting this distinction right matters more than finding a "cheaper" option, because the consequences of picking the wrong type of hardware can range from a frustrating installation to a compromised safety setup during a heavy road trip.
• CURT 51125: Its biggest strength is the flexible, slotted mounting design that allows secure attachment at any angle and includes a spare bracket for multi-vehicle use; its trade-off is that it is strictly a bracket for a specific controller model and offers no electronic functionality itself. This pick is for the owner of a CURT Discovery #51120 who needs a rugged, relocatable mount.
• Omquot Red Trailer Air: Its biggest strength is the vivid red coloration and OE-number compatibility that ensures instant visibility and easy swap-out on semi-trailers without professional tools; its trade-off is that it is a single-purpose replacement part limited to specific thread types and valve systems. This pick is for the trucker needing a durable, high-contrast button replacement for their pneumatic system.
The CURT 51125 Discovery Trailer Brake Controller Mounting Bracket is engineered for the driver who values adaptability above all else. The core of this product lies in its physical design: it features slotted screw holes rather than fixed, pre-drilled holes. This isn't just a minor detail; it means you have genuine freedom in where you place your brake controller inside the cabin. Whether you are driving a pickup with a tight dashboard or a larger commercial vehicle with an open console, you can position the unit exactly where your line of sight and reach allow. The ability to mount at any angle is crucial for ergonomics, ensuring you aren't straining to see the display or reaching awkwardly to adjust settings while navigating a highway.
Another standout feature for the frequent traveler is the inclusion of a spare bracket. If you own multiple vehicles or frequently move equipment between rigs, this single purchase covers both units. You can leave one bracket installed in your primary truck and keep the second one ready for your secondary vehicle. This eliminates the need to buy separate mounting hardware for every new rig you encounter, which simplifies logistics significantly. The unit itself is compact, measuring roughly 1 x 2 x 4 inches, and weighs less than a pound, meaning it adds negligible weight to your vehicle's interior while providing a solid, black-finished anchor point for your controller.
However, there is a clear boundary to what this product does. It is purely mechanical hardware. It does not contain electronics, wiring, or sensors. It is designed exclusively to hold the CURT Discovery trailer brake controller #51120. If you do not own that specific model, or if you are looking for a generic bracket that fits third-party controllers, this item will not work for you. Furthermore, because it is a mounting plate and not a control unit, it requires a compatible controller to be purchased separately and wired into your vehicle's electrical system before it becomes useful.

You should skip the CURT 51125 if you are looking for a standalone brake controller, if you drive a vehicle where a custom angle mount is impossible due to structural obstructions, or if you need a universal bracket that fits brands other than CURT. It is also unnecessary if you never move your controller between different vehicles, as the spare bracket benefit would go unused.
The Omquot Red Trailer Air Brake Button addresses a very specific but critical need for operators of semi-trailers and heavy-duty trucks. The primary value here is visibility and direct compatibility. In a large cab, where space can be cluttered with switches and gauges, a standard gray or black button can easily be lost or missed in an emergency. The Omquot button is manufactured in a vivid red color, paired with yellow options, ensuring it stands out sharply against the interior dashboard. This visual contrast is not merely aesthetic; it reduces reaction time when you need to engage the trailer air brakes quickly. The design prioritizes being found instantly, which is a vital safety feature when managing a heavy load on the road.
Durability is the second pillar of this product's appeal. Constructed from robust plastic, the button is built to withstand continuous pressure and repeated actuation. Trucking involves constant switching, and cheap components often crack or wear down under the stress of daily operation. The Omquot design claims resilience against this wear, promising a long service life even in demanding environments. Installation is another key factor for drivers who prefer to handle maintenance themselves. The unit is designed to replace old or damaged buttons directly, fitting into existing push-pull valves with a thread type that matches standard OE specifications. You do not need specialized tools or professional help to swap this out; it is a straightforward mechanical replacement that gets your trailer braking system back to full operational status immediately.
The compatibility data confirms its specificity. The product references specific OE numbers like 298817, 298817N, and TR298817 for the red variant, indicating it is a precision fit for particular valve models. This makes it an ideal drop-in replacement for maintaining fleet consistency. However, this specificity is also its limitation. It is not a universal button for every truck in existence. It is tailored for pneumatic brake buttons suitable for push-pull valves with threads. If your valve system uses a different connection type or a non-standard thread, this part will not fit. Additionally, while the dimensions (approximately 1.57 x 3.15 x 1.57 inches) suggest a standard size, the internal threading must match your specific valve to function correctly.
You should skip the Omquot Red Trailer Air if you are not operating a semi-trailer or heavy truck with a pneumatic push-pull valve system, if your current button uses a different thread type or connection method, or if you are looking for an electronic brake controller component rather than a manual air valve button. It is also not suitable for light-duty passenger vehicles that do not utilize pneumatic trailer braking systems.
When choosing between these two items, the decision rests entirely on the nature of your vehicle and the specific problem you are trying to solve. Do not attempt to force a choice based on price alone, as they serve different functions. If you are planning a road trip with a tow setup, you must first identify whether you are missing a mounting point for your existing controller or if you have a broken button on your air valve system.
Consider the environment of your daily driving. If you frequently switch between different trucks or trailers, the multi-vehicle capability of the CURT bracket offers a logistical advantage that saves money over time. Conversely, if you run a single rig and prioritize immediate visual clarity and quick replacement of worn parts, the Omquot button provides peace of mind through its high-visibility design and durability. Think about the last time you had to fumble for a brake button in a dimly lit cab or struggled to align a controller bracket perfectly. Your past frustration points to which specification matters most to you now.
Remember that these are not interchangeable solutions. Buying a bracket when you need a button will result in a non-functional braking system, just as buying a button when you need a mount will leave you with a loose, vibrating controller. Ensure you verify the specific model numbers of your current equipment against the data provided. The Omquot part lists several reference numbers; checking your current valve against this list is essential before ordering. Similarly, confirm that your brake controller is indeed the CURT Discovery #51120 before purchasing the bracket, as the slot design is tailored to that specific housing.

In my opinion, the right choice depends entirely on the stage of your vehicle setup, but for a comprehensive road trip readiness, I recommend starting with the Omquot Red Trailer Air if your current button is failing or missing. A visible, reliable brake button is a fundamental safety requirement that cannot be compromised. Once your braking inputs are secure, then address the controller mounting with the CURT 51125 if you plan to move it between vehicles. For a solo driver with a dedicated rig, the CURT bracket might be the smarter long-term investment due to its versatility, but safety comes first. Both products excel in their narrow lanes, so ensure you are buying the tool that solves your specific mechanical gap.
